WHAT I’M CURRENTLY READING

I’m currently reading …

  • “Same Kind of Different as Me”
  • “The Love Dare” (with Lea)
  • I read a chapter of “this” book of the Bible daily. “These” verses rocked my spiritual world this morning.
  • I love reading “The Christian Chronicle.” It’s my favorite religious newspaper. This month’s issue included a story on preaching that really made me think about these questions: What is biblical preaching? How did Jesus preach? Do we preach like Jesus did? I’ll blog about it in a few days.
  • The church in Childress is reading through “this” book as a congregation. It’s been an excellent study.

My mom went to high school with Ron Hall. She has given me the book and I’ve still yet to read it. I hear that it is a great read!

  7. Richard says:

Just read ‘Preaching to a Post-Everything World’ by Zach Eswine as a seminary assignment. Good stuff. Reading this one with some guys in our church as part of a men’s coaching group – ‘Pilgrim Heart: The Way of Jesus in Everyday Life’. It really slaps us around — in a good way!

  8. Richard says:

BTW – Pilgrim Heart is by Darryl Tippens.

I’ve made no secret of my love for the “Same Kind of Different As Me” book. I just finished “Left To Tell”. It is the story of one of the Rwandan genocide survivors. I just started “Odd Thomas”, a fiction work suggested by Patrick.

  10. Terry says:

I love the Christian Chronicle, too. (I have been waiting for a week to post a link to the story about one of my favorite professors, Dr. John Thompson.)

    I have been reading:
    “Uncommon” by Tony Dungy
“Do Hard Things” by the Harris brothers

  11. Tiffany says:

I’m reading a Strategic Management book for grad school, and a LSAT prep book. Nothing exciting.

Can’t believe you havent read “Same Kind of Different As Me” since you’ve had it 3 months now. I’ll let you slide as you’ve been busy. I only hope I am the strong Christian women like Mrs. Debbie is in the book. You will have to give an update when you are done. Word is they are making it into a movie.

    Miss ya.

I read the Same Kind of Different as me right after I led a ladies retreat. I wish I would have read it before. I would have included it as one of my resources. Right now I am reading The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck. Another tear jerker.

  13. gosoonersjy says:

Currently reading “Same Kind of Different as Me” and “They Smell Like Sheep-Volume 2.” Just finished “The Shack.” All great reads!

  14. Jenl says:

Because of you, I’m reading through the Love Dare with my Hubby, too. What a gift!

Just picked up Repenting of Religion by Gregory Boyd.

Kevin, I agree that Wild Goose Chase rocks your world! I’ve been on the chase ever since I read that.

  15. Dawn Jenkins says:

I just finished -Same Kind of Different As Me- and LOVED it. I cried and cried at the end of the story. The words of wisdom that come out of Denver’s mouth amaze me.

  16. katy says:

I’m reading “Rebekah” by Orson Scott Card. It’s a fictionalized story of Rebekah in the OT. It’s very nicely done, gives some interesting cultural perspective of that period, although I don’t think it’s that accurate. Good insights into the patriarchs nevertheless. And it’s a very good story.

  17. a cowgirl at heart says:

This is a late comment but maybe you will see it:

-I’m reading The Excellent Wife and I am really into it. It is part of a Bible study at church.

-I’m also reading Eclipse in the Twilight series.

-I’ve started Yancey’s “The Jesus I Never Knew.”

-I am reading a daily scripture lesson for the Lenten season through Biblegateway.com.

BTW…I LOVED Same Kind of Different As Me…wow!
