Yee Haw! A few months ago my wife made a comment in passing on my blog about how much she wishes I’d get her tickets to the Saturday night race a Bristol, Tennessee. Yea, right Lea. Like that would ever happen. We’ll honey, we’re going to Bristol in two weeks for the “Sharpie 500.”

A friend of mine, who is far better to me then I deserve, read Lea’s comment and started working to find tickets. He called me last week and said, “I got you two tickets to Friday night’s race and two ticket to Saturday night’s race, plus room and board are covered for your trip. You just need to take care of your plane tickets.” I think we can handle that.

Bristol tickets are the hardest to get in NASCAR. From what I understand, they sellout years in advance. Now you know why I’m pumped.

Lea and I love sports. Major League Baseball, NFL football and NASCAR have always been sports we like to watch. But Lea’s real love is NASCAR. We’ve made races at Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas the last 6 years. We even celebrated an anniversary by flying to Richmond, Virgina, a few years ago, and catching a race there. But Bristol has just been a dream … till now.

So, the kids are lined up, the plane tickets purchased and we’re less than two weeks from the green flag dropping. Bristol Motor Speedway here we come.

PS – It worked for Bristol tickets so I thought I might also mention here that I’d love to go to the Super Bowl, the World Series, Hawaii, the beach and those new Chevy pickups are really cool. 😉 Just kidding.

So, have you ever been given a gift that just “overwhelmed” you?

I only have one comment — with friends like that, who needs enemies???

Just kidding. I am not a Nascar fan, but know that you will enjoy the trip since you are. Shame you aren’t driving as I would try to convince you to swing by Paragould, Arkansas and visit my wife and I.

    Enjoy your trip.

    Way cool! Have fun!

I went to the night race 7 years ago because of a gift of tickets. I was a very thankful girl – I didn’t have to plan a thing!

    jel, that is funny.

I think if I went to a race I would make everyone mad by making comments like, “Look, kids, Big Ben…Parliament.” over and over again.

enjoy watching cars go in a circle. congrats.

we have received two consecutive hand-me down cars when we could not have afforded a car payment. very grateful and overwhelmed and excited

I knew it. Are you coming to worship with us Sunday morning? :)

  8. Jeff Slater says:

You’ll have a great time. I’ve been to the August Bristol race 3 times. One of those times we got to go into the pit area and actually walk on the track. Very cool. That was also the year that Jeff Gordon did the bump-and-run on kRusty Wallace to win the race on the last lap. Yes!

All 3 times, we stayed in a motorhome in the Thunder Valley Campground. And all 3 times the tickets were a gift from a friend. My son has gone with us twice, and he will always remember those races.

We’ll be waiting for a full report when you return.

  9. TREY MORGAN says:

You non-NASCAR fans are going to have to watch the race that Saturday night just to watch for me. Then, after just one race, you guys will be hooked!

Lisa, How far away are you guys?

Jeff, I remember that race well. It is my favorite Bristol race of all time.

  10. jel says:

Trey I was a race fan, but the best driver dont drive any more!

    so why watch !

ya know we are happy for ya!

  11. Monalea says:

Wow, I could have guessed all the rest of my life and never even gotten close. I haven’t ever heard of Bristol except when it is linked with Myers. Ha ha!

    Have a great time!

    Love you 2-3-6

  12. Alan Gable says:

Short track racing is why God created the internal combustion engine. As I read, I turned green with jealousy. Bristol is a thin slice of heaven.

  13. Toni Burns says:

Trey, I am really happy for you. I had thought up all kinds of things like you were going to write a book etc. would have never guessed the race. I bet Bruce and Amanda are a little bit jealous. Hope you have a great time. Toni

  14. lisa says:

We’re an hour & a half away. Not very close. :o( If you want to meet for breakfast Saturday morning, let me know & I’ll make the drive!

I would be overwhelmed if you would give me those tickets….just kidding, that is a great gift and I am a little-bitty bit jealous!!

    Maybe Junior won’t blow up!!

  18. Greg says:

Congrats! Our church gave us an Alaskan cruise, all expenses paid, for next summer (we were just too busy this summer w/ the move, new job, etc) that overwhelmed us. But I must make this comment: If you don’t lose weight doing it, it ain’t a sport!! I’ve never thought of NASCAR as a sport as much as entertainment … sort of like professional “rasslin’.” But I hope you have a great trip and enjoy it to the max. You are fortunate to have such a friend.

  19. That Girl says:

    Dear Greg…
Imagine how much fluid they lose! Those firesuits aren’t for keeping them cool! I could lose 10 pounds just WATCHING them at Bristol in August… it’s a sauna!

    :) Oh, it’s a sport. If there’s a winner and several losers, it’s a sport!

  20. Dane says:

Man! No wonder you called to see if I saw it. You guys have fun. I’ll miss you guys. I’ll probably be back in El Paso though so we won’t even know each other is gone though. Tell Bruiser not to faint when that goofy Waltrip guy comes strolling by. LOL

    An overwhelming gift?…my wife Becky!

  21. Anonymous says:

So, have you ever been given a gift that just “overwhelmed” you?

Nope! But that’s okay, I don’t need to go to no stinkin race at Bristol. Y’all have fun. It’s been nice being friends but I’m afraid we just can’t anymore! hehehe 😉

  23. Jeanne M. says:

Trey, I hope you and Lea are able to go up I-81 to VA to see Lisa and family that Saturday or Sunday. Would love to be able to join you, but we are 3 hours away in Charlotte. Now, if you would care to come to Charlotte, plan to visit us at Westside.

  24. TREY MORGAN says:

Sandi … since you and your husband are the ones that got me hooked on NASCAR it would only be right to offer the ticket to you, right? Naaa. But I will wave at you from the start/finish line. I’ll be the guy in the “24” hat. :)

Jeanne – I wish we could pull it off. We fly in on Friday and fly out early Sunday morning. I’m not seeing any way it will work. We had to get early flights out because the boys start school the next morning and we have to pick them up in Dallas where they’ll be staying with their aunt.

  25. Anita says:

Trey, I had an explanation on my gifts that were overwhelming, but I decided it was a little more personal than I could post so I’ll just summarize. I have received 3 overwhelming gifts in my life. One, a child that my husband and I weren’t sure would ever happen. Two, my husband surprised me and committed to God with me. Three, a bag full of 9,000 ladybugs.

My question to you is…how overwhelmed will you be if Gordon wins at Bristol???!!!!

  26. TREY MORGAN says:

Anita … I’d say you’ve done alright on the “overwhelming” gifts. Your family is a blessing to mine. And yes I’d be shocked if Gordon won a race while I was actually watching…

    But I can dream, can’t I?
