VBS is all about kids and this week has been great. We’ve had about 285 each night. Tonight will be our biggest crowd. We won’t be competing with little league baseball and other community activities tonight. I love VBS because it’s one of the ways we reach kids. And I love the fact that the Childress church goes “all out” for it’s VBS and everything is done first class. I believe that if we want to SERIOUSLY impact the world we live in, we MUST do it through dynamic youth and children ministries. We must reach out to children. They must be a major focus and investment of our churches.
It’s been a very busy week. VBS week always is, but add in to the mix my brother Bruce, and his family, are here for two days from Juneau, Alaska. Bruce preaches for the church in beautiful Juneau. We haven’t got to see Bruce, Amanda and the kids in over a year, so we’ve spent a lot of time this week catching up, talking and laughing.
One of the coolest parts of the week was getting to spend a little time with blogging legend Neva, from Dancing in the Light blogspot, and her husband Ned (or Mrs. Neva as we call him). They came over and taught one of our Bible classes during our VBS. And they also got to eat at a famous restaurant, “The Deuce.” Okay, so maybe it isn’t famous, but it is the Morgan’s favorite restaurant.
See you tomorrow…
PS – I loved the comments to yesterday’s post “10 Signs Your Spending Too Much Time Blogging.” You guys make me laugh. So, anyone for starting a support group?

Trey, we tried starting a support group … but no one wants to give up blogging. (o;
VBS looks & sounds fun!! Hope you are having fun with Bruce & family. Say hi for us!!
Hey, just curious, did you get a picture of Neva while she was there?
sounds like ya are having a good time,
I was wondering the same thing,
but don’t want to ask, Thanks Lisa
We used to go all out for VBS when I was preaching in Florida. The last one that involved me had a western theme and began on a Sunday night. The guy chosen to be the front man for the week showed up with a very appropriate cowboy hat on and one of the elders made him take it off! He (the elder) was clueless about what was going on that night. We had a good VBS in spite of that elder. The cowboy hat was okay the remainder of VBS, just not on a Sunday night!! Go figure??
You got to spend time with the ‘legend blogger Neva?’ Wow, what a blessing. And to be in Mr. Neva’s presents, amazing!
Love you!

VBS sounds fun. Hope no one got their eyes gouged out or bricks thrown at them

I am so jealous that you got to spend time with Neva outside of cyber world. I’m glad that Bruce and Amanda got to visit. Tell them hello! I feel old when I recongnize those kids in the pictures by “who they belong to”.
N & N aren’t all they are cracked up to be. They are all right but I’m just jealous, in a Chrisitna way, they got to go to the famous deuce.
As for the support group, I was thinking about starting a new blog to offer one. Kind of like the song that talked about hiring a wino to decorate the house. If they won’t go to the support group let the support group come to them.

Say hello to Bruce for me too.
I have always loved VBS – the kids and the teaching. Having visitors who have never heard the stories and seeming to take it all in was so rewarding. Where I am now, there is no VBS. We have probably half the number of smaller children that are shown in your first picture, but we do have a good group of teens, and a good group of young adults. Maybe in the near future, we will begin to see babies who can go to Cradle Roll and learn about God, Jesus and the Bible. They are little sponges soaking it all in, and it so delightful to see them.

Two hundred and eighty five kids! Wow, that’s a big group of kids.
What would be good things to add to my site for church of christ members trey? I like cocn.org but its just is porley desined and very small. Would you add things to the site and get other churches to join as well when I get it going? The VBS for kids is awesome!

Thanks James,
we can really feel the love.

for the rest of you—why do you need to see a picture of us? Just imagine, Ned looks like a cross between Uncle Fester, Uncle Buck and Elvis(Yes hes been dead 30 years) and I look like a cross between Edith Bunker and Maude and Phyllis Diller. There now you don’t need to see us!
peace,
n
Whenever I think of Ned, the only thing I can envision is him climbing up on the dash of your car when you “ease” over onto the rumble bars.
Neva, I am glad you feel the luuuv.
In case you guys are interested in what they look like check out our blog tomorrow. We can give you an up close look. Edith, those were the days. I really liked the comparison to Maude. Those of you who heard her speak can vouch for the similarity. Certainly the hairstyles are similar with Phylis, that snow white hair.
You’re right Ned does a great ‘uncle Fester’ That trick with the light bulb is amazing.
James
You ask for a picture of Neva and Mr. Neva … I deliver …

Trey,
that was a great picture!
my kind of people!
they are a cute couple!
Looks like great fun, Trey. Our VBS begins a week from Monday. It will be great to see all those fresh faces and be around that boundless energy!

Trey, Lon tried to comment yesterday and it didn’t go through. He asked if that was a picture of you in the middle in the first picture.
Neva, I love your “family” picture. I am sure it doesn’t flatter either of you, though.
Jeanne M.
Jeanne … I made sure and kept myself out of all pictures. ha
As for Neva’s picture… I had a picture of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston I was going to link, but I actually like the other one better. Because I think they are a much cuter couple.
“We’re glad to be here in Vacation Bible School,
Vacation Bible School,
Vacation Bible School,
We’re glad to be here in Vacation Bible School-
This is the best place we could be!”
Hmmm, don’t know if the kids sing that one anymore, but we sang it when I used to go to VBS.
Good luck with the kids, you might need it!
