Growing up in the panhandle of Texas you learn that tornadoes are a part of life. Last May the city of Childress was hit by a tornado (pictures here and more pictures here). We spent weeks cleaning up and recovering from the damage.
Last night the little town of Tulia (about 90 miles away), where we lived for 10 years, was hit hard by a tornado (video & new video here). The news reported and showed video of the tornado going right through the western part of the town. The power is down there, but I have been able to contact friends and church members by cellular phone. Sounds like there was a lot of damage done, and a few injuries at this time. Homes, business and property have been damaged and destroyed.
The police have closed the town and at this time won’t let anyone in, I’m going to try and go over to check on them later today or tomorrow. Please say a little prayer for Tulia today.
Thanks

will be lifting them up in prayer,
Safe trip Trey!
Keep us updated about Tulia please.
Love you!

I was drawn to your blog because of the Tulia Tornado connection. I have been searching for any and all information I could find. I was born and lived in Tulia many years, and have family there. My family is all safe. My mothers home is located across the alley from the Alco Discount that was destroyed. We feel fortunate it was missed (all but the fence). Your site was very refreshing, and I found golden nuggets in your writings. Thanks, you made my day better.
Sharon, thanks for stopping by. Glad your Mother’s home was okay. Sounds like there was total destruction in the business area of old I-27. But I know there were some home damaged too. They are just now (today) allowing people back to their homes to see their damage.
As of noon today, the electricity was still off in certain area’s of town.
What can we do to help from Lubbock?
We are praying…
Happy Earth Day!
Jesus is Lord! (even in tornados)

We just got our electricty back about 15 minutes ago. We are safe. There were a couple of girls locking up ALCO after sending all the other eployees home. They were slightly injured. Trey, Teresa was NOT one of them.

Sandi,
Glad you’re back among those living with electricty. Glad you guys are okay too. I think I’ve talked to nearly everyone in Tulia today. Wish I was there to help.
We’ll keep you guys in our prayers…
Trey
We will be praying for the people in Tulia.
My 9-year-old, Robert, is fascinated by tornadoes. Thanks for the pictures and videos.
