• Why did NFL player Dante Stallworth only get 30 days in jail for killing a man while drinking and driving, BUT Michael Vick, another NFL player, got two years in prison for cruelty to animals?

  • Why do we sing songs at church that don’t make sense?
  • Why is it that things that taste the best are the things that are the worst for me?
  • How is it that your kids can polish off a huge lunch and thirty minutes later be looking for a snack?
  • Where did Lea learn that Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change a woman’s life? (Thanks Angie)
  • Why do some churches focus on everything BUT reaching the lost in their community.
  • Why do we find ourselves focusing on what our kids are doing wrong, instead of what are kids are doing right?
  • Why do I love to use all those goofy parental cliches on my kids that I vowed as a child I’d NEVER use?
  • Why do we remember the criticism we’ve received from people longer than we do the praise?
  • Why can’t Brett Farve just retire?
  • Why do wives have fancy hand-towels in their homes that are just for looks and not for your dirty hands?
  • AND MOST OF ALL … I just can’t understand why is God willing to pour grace and mercy into my life on a daily basis? BUT I’m glad does :)

    On #1:

There are a couple of reasons — 1) michael vick committed a federal crime; Stallworth's was a state crime. 2) Michael Vick was running, or at LEAST bankrolling, an interstate illegal gambling syndicate; Stallworth was driving home from a club while intoxicated, and 3) Michael Vick worked long and hard to deny, hide, and escape the consequences of his crimes; Stallworth immediately stopped and did everything he could to take responsibilitý for what happened.

His actions in the moment of crisis, while intoxicated (which, as we know, makes it even harder to pretend to be something you're not), lead me to give him the benefit of the doubt with reference to the civil suit. He will be working for the next decade to provide for the deceased man's family.

Which do we desire? Punishment or reconciliation?

    Nick – Yes :)

"Why do some churches focus on everything BUT reaching the lost in their community."

Good question. (I am happy that yours does NOT seem to fall into that category!)

You know I have reached the point where I refuse to sing along when the song does not make sense….

I also don't understand why I feel the need to rub a bruise…like it will make it go away…

Something else that makes no sense to me: Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. What do they actually do to make a living and why do they always seem to show up whenever there is a chance of national media coverage? There must be pretty good money in being thugs and shakedown artists!

Trey, what can taste better than strawberries and organic dark chocolate?

I don’t have answers for your questions, just more questions. 

Why is it men never read directions or stop and ask for directions?

And….just to remain “fair and balanced”…

Why is it women always do “backseat driving?

  8. NB says:

Good questions. There are so many things in this world that just don't make sense!

  9. Patrick Mead says:

I'm ready to read your series of blogs on songs that don't make sense. I can't see what could possibly go wrong…

now Patrick, don't get him started on that one,

I'm just curious, which songs don't make sense?

  12. Anonymous says:

    you know the ones !

  13. Falantedios says:

I'm still waiting for a song list :)

You could even email them to me! I'll blog about them and not rat you out! LOL :)

  14. TREY MORGAN says:

Don't give up on me … the list of church songs that confuse me is a coming. :)

  15. James Milstead says:

As a Chicago Bears fan, I am hoping Farve will sign with their division rival Vikings. Farve is worth at least 2 interceptions per game, so since we play them twice we can pick him 4 times next fall 😀

Here you go on songs: I struggle with any church song where the words or phrases either don't make sense or we don't use them. Or songs where you have to go home and pull out the dictionary and look up words to see what they mean.

I'm thinking, if I'm struggling with, "There is a Balm in Gilead," or "Raising my Ebenezer," then there has to be other, including our kids, that have NO clue what they are singing. We sang one once about us going up to mount Pisgah, I though "What does that mean?" … Had to look it up. Found out that it had to do with Moses and when he went up and looked over the promise land that he wouldn't get to enter. Or while I'm on songs, how about the youth song, "Get right church … I'm going home on the morning train." Never quite understood what trains and churches had to do with one another. But then again, that's just me.

I feel God takes serious the things we tell and promise him, I want to make sure I understand what I'm singing so I don't promise him something I can't deliver.

I hope all that is about as clear as muddy water :)

  • it's still early. :)
  • no worries. Luke is a very popular gospel during the Christmas season. 😜 #BabyJesusStory
  • Mitch Moreland has a combined 1.6 WAR since the start of 2011 at a premium position (DH/1B). That position needs to produce.
  • definitely don't disagree with that. We will miss his glove. But he had such a quiet bat for someone at first base.
  • I only disliked him when he was at the plate.
