Last night at VBS there was a little girl that was the last one to be picked up. While we waited for her ride she playfully called me “butt-head” and other names that’s weren’t all that bad, but inappropriate for a little girl age 7. At one point she leaned over and said, “I’m gonna pour my Koolaid on your head,” and then she proceeded to do exactly what’s she said she would. My only thought was, “What a bratty kid.”
Then after a few minutes of asking questions to the little “bratty” kid I found out more about her. She told me she’d just moved here to live with her grandparents, whom she didn’t really know, because as she explained, “My daddy is in prison and my momma just went to jail too.”
My heart broke as I realized I judged the little “bratty” kid way to quickly. No telling the tough life she’d already been through.
I need to do better at not judging and jumping to conclusions before i know the whole story. I was reminded again last night that perspective is an very important thing.

Ah, such a good reminder! Yes, it’s easy to just write these little ones off, without even questioning how they got where they are.
