This is a very useful post. It is so important for husbands and wives to have excellent communication. It is good for people to feel safe with each other to discuss what they faced during the day without being attacked. If men feel like they don't have an open and safe environment to discuss danger signs, then who knows what it will lead to as they keep those things from their wives. Secrets are so powerful. Often affairs are kept going due to the thrill of it all. The truth is liberating and we need to be able to talk about our temptations and struggles with our spouses. This can only happen when we feel like we have a safe environment with our spouses. My wife and I have promised each other to never intentionally harm each other and that includes communication. We also try not to assume the worst of each other. This creates a positive atmosphere of open and productive/constructive communication where these things can be discussed before they become a problem.

Trey,
I have a couple of Farrar books. A couple of the staples on men and family in my library are Arteburn's books on Every Man's (woman, teen...) Battle and the Love Languages books. There are so many great books out there. The point is to use them.

The attempt at corney humor is great. It is just you. Keep it up.
James

Lisa ... I got the joke. Too funny. As for your dad, I wasn't sure if he was serious or not. I thought he might be pulling my leg. I also went back to make sure I told it correctly.

As for cancer ... it has been a battle. Twice. God has been good to me. I will share more later.

Chris ... thanks for your positive spirit and your willingness to help.

Very good post, as usual.

Unfortunately, Trey, I can vouch for the truthfulness of each of these points. And, I can also testify that the consequences that follow are more difficult than one ever imagines while they are caught up in the ambush.

I would also add that if there is one reading these words who finds himself/herself involved something of this nature and needs to talk with someone who made the mistakes and suffers from the consequences, I am here and all will remain anonymous. Hopefully no one will need it, but if you do, don't be afraid to ask.

Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement Trey.

Coolest blog ever ??? Hmmm .... Obviously Patrick hasn't been over to MY place. Just kidding!!!! Seriously, I'd never go to someone else's blog & try to draw readers to my own. That's totally uncool. (Did you read some of the old posts Brian mentioned in his blogfast post? If not, then you don't get my joke.)

Speaking of jokes, that is so funny that you had to explain your joke to Dad. Especially considering how many jokes he must have had to explain to me over the years. He's another preacher guy that likes to repeat his favorite material -- yet another thing you have in common. ;)

I echo Gallagher's request. I want to hear more about the dates. Were you diagnosed with cancer twice?!

Trey,

Excellent thoughts! I find it helpful and also worthwhile to use in various Bible class or in a lesson.

I read a good book a couple years ago entitled' "Divorce Proofing Your Marriage" by Gary Roseberg with his wife assisting. The book described the process of disconnecting from your mate, some of the things you mentioned were part of the disconnecting process.

Great thoughts!

Post Request: I would be interesting in hearing about the dates below the LiveStrong bracelet.

God bless,

Gallagher
