I personally think we need a category of spiritual heroes and spiritual role models. Let me give you one that would top my list.

  • Single Moms: Mothers who bring their children to church all by themselves are my spiritual heroes. They are either mothers without husbands or mothers with husbands that don’t (or can’t) come to church. Yet, that mom feels the place that she and the kids need to be is in Worship. She rises early on a Sunday morning, prepares breakfast, dresses herself and kids, and attends services knowing full well that if the kids act like kids, she may not get much out of the service. But she is still there because she knows that is where they all need to be. I’d have to say those moms are somewhere at the top of my list.

No telling how many great leaders in the church have been raised by Godly single mothers. Need a Biblical example? How about Timothy? “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5)

So, that’s who makes my list of spiritual heroes. How about your list? Who are your spiritual heroes? Leave me a comment and let me know….

Hey love your podcast. That is really great! Here is another great sermon for reference on the topic of dedicated moms that don’t have the spiritual support at home.

Thanks for the link, Monica. Mom’s deserve so much more credit than they get. You always recommend good stuff.

Hey, know who else is a spiritual hero? Missionaries … like James & Jacob Henderson. You graduated with James didn’t you? Did you ever think James would turn out the way he did? Wow!

  3. Mommysmart says:

Missionaries are great heroes! I graduated a year behind James. I am so proud of him. After graduation, I very seriously considered AIM. James introduced me to his friends and I was very close to making that decision. It wasn’t right for me at the time. It has been very right for James and he is doing wonderful things for God.

I don’t have a way to contact him, though. Maybe you could pass that on sometime. Do he and Jacob have a blog? They should if they don’t.

  4. Trey Morgan says:

I wish James and Jacob did have a blog. There is a Mexico City Missions blog that they work with, but usually you don’t get a lot of news from them.

I’m amazed how well all you kids turned out with bummer of a youth minister you had :)

We were very blessed with such a great youth minister. I’m not sure whether you were our buddie or our (very young)dad, but either way we had a lot of fun. Those are the best memories of my youth.
