Trey,
I had a friend that decided that church was standing between him and GOD, so he stopped going. Now this is a friend that I meet with at paramedics for Christ. I understood his point, and could not argue, but had to remind him that he had not stopped attending church, but instead had changed the look of his attendance. Anywhere that there are people of Christ pursuing a life more reflective of His, and doing this together arm-in-arm IS CHRIST's bride, the church. I love the examples of "Church" that you used.
Christ said like this-
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
(John 13:34-35)
We are the body of Christ to the world- the ongoing presence of God to those around us. That is a "verb" not about what we believe or how we play "church,: but how we walk in the footsteps of our Rabbi Christ. How we DO what CHRIST DID! Care about people that are hard to care for, and having compassion on those marginalized and rejected by society. Putting those considered "less" by the world BEFORE us. Not an easy feat, but a better way to live, if Jesus is right.

Walk on, Brother,
Justin

Hey Trey
Great comments! We all need to push ourselves to do this more and more.
I was rebuked by a sermon not to long ago on this same subject. Bill Tracy reminded me that I needed to be searching for people everyday. Bill talked about how he was getting fliers printed and he was in such a hurry that he couldn't take the time to talk the girl who was waiting on him. There was another guy with him that began telling her about the flier and asking if she needed prayers. The girl was excited that they had asked because her church had taught her that she was not allowed to pray for things that she needed. She asked if this was true and Bill told her no and began to teach her about prayer. Bill told us that he was to busy to take the time he needed to speak to this girl and was rebuked by the whole situation. The situation reminded me of myself and how I get so upset at people that are around me in public. Whether its the person checking me out at Walmart or the person that cuts in front me at Home Depot, glorifying God should always be in my mind at all times. Sometimes we become so self-centered that we forget that God is more important than the three minutes that were taken from us by someone cutting in line.
Sorry this is so long its just a subject that I have been trying to work on. Guy

Thanks for the reminder. Each Lord's Day, as we're driving to worship with the saints, I ask my children, "Where are we going?"

Sometimes they forget and say, "To church!"

"No," I reprove gently, "we ARE the church. Where are we going?"

"To gather with the church!" they then correctly reply.

It's a more-or-less regular liturgy we go through as I prepare them for worshiping with the saints. What will we do there? What do we do when everyone is singing? when the pastor is praying? when the pastor is preaching? I remind them that we'll also be going to the Lord's Table and ask them, "Who can come to the Table?"

"The Lord's people."

I then remind them that everything we do is worship. 24x7x365... not just Sunday. We worship Him with everything we think, say and do. We worship Him by obeying His word.

And this is reinforced throughout the week as we read His word, discuss it at the table, sing hymns together and pray during family worship.
