PREACHER PRAYS FOR OBAMA TO DIE (No Wonder the World Hates Christians)

And the award for the most “unChrist-like stunt of the year” goes to…

“A Phoenix-area pastor delivered a sermon titled, “Why I Hate Barack Obama,” and told his parishioners that he prays for President Obama’s death.

Pastor Steven Anderson stood by his sermon in an interview with MyFOXPhoenix, which reports that the pastor continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president’s death.

“I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today,” he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message “spiritual warfare” and said he does not condone killing.” Read the rest of the story here!

I would just like to go on record as saying … “ARE YOU NUTS?” The only message you’re going to convey to people of the world, by stupid stunt like this, is a message of hate and disgust for Christianity. And we wonder why we are hated by the unbelieving world.

  1. Pastor David says:

I am with you on this one Trey- wshat a big piece of stupid- see my latest blog on contention.

  2. fraizerbaz says:

Mr. Anderson has been in the news before. He has a RADICAL political agenda – nothing to do with love whatsoever.

Yes, there are some false teachers and wolves in sheep's clothing out there. He isn't the first, and he won't be the last.

I am saddened that this person is manipulating the Word to brainwash his brothers and sisters, and propagating hate.

You can't reason with him, but you can pray for him.

  3. Deb ;) says:

Unbelievable! I totally agree with you, Trey. I pray that the world will know he is not representative of US!!

    Trey,
Not all of us Arizona Christians are like this, I promise! 😉

  5. tmarty says:

So has this preacher read the Bible? This is truly sickening.

  6. Robin says:

Trey, thanks for standing up for us who are not in the business of "hate" … It's good for the world to see that most of us are just as disgusted as they are for attitudes such as this. And we know some fabulous Christians from Arizona who would never dream of condoning such as this. Prayer is a marvelous thing, though, and combined with positive actions – unbeatable!
Sometimes we need to remember that old song …
"let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me …"

  7. Cecelia (YAHWEHCAREGIVER) says:

That pastor has SERIOUS issues. I have NO use for Obama myself, but I don't wish or pray for the person to be dead.
    WOW.

  8. Joshua says:

    Hey Uncle Trey,

I'd like to say everyone has their crazies… just one of ours happens to be a pastor. :(

  9. Soren says:

This guy is an idiot — a KJV-only, fundy nutburger. But some of his videos are hilarious (unintentionally). His "pisseth on the wall" sermon is a hoot:

  10. TREY MORGAN says:

Sounds like this guy has won this award before…. :)

  11. Janice Garrison says:

With an attitude like that, is he REALLY a Christian? Just because someone may insist that 2+2=5 doesn't make it so!

  12. Tim Archer says:

I have to admit, I don't wonder so much about this guy… I wonder about those that attend the church where he preaches.

    Grace and peace,
    Tim Archer

  13. Robin Carlile says:

How sad that anyone who claims the name of such a great God would stand on such a "shaky ground". Doesn't the Word tell us that to those who have been given the gift of teaching others, much is expected of them? (can't locate the scripture just now) I also have to wonder the same thing as Tim Archer, I wonder as much about the church that he pastors for putting up with such nonsense. What ARE they thinking???? The Lord also cautions us against "wolves in sheep's clothing". Thanks Trey for sharing this with us and I'll be praying for this man's hard heart to soften and for his love for God be more his focus rather than his hate for a mere mortal man.

    Not Good

  15. nick gill says:

Trey, you're asking a healthy question in a healthy and introspective way.

I wish more Americans would ask that question: "Why do they hate us?" with the same compassionate introspection — no matter who "they" might be.

  16. Terry says:

I realize that I can't get everyone to love me, but I try to not give them good reasons to hate me.

  17. Terry says:

I liked much more John Piper's prayer for President Obama from earlier this week: http://www.desiringgod.org/Blog/1986_i_hope_my_daughter_hears_the_presidents_speech

  18. Stoogelover says:

I certainly don't condone such stupidity … however, I am reminded that Obama attended a church for many years where he heard much of the same stupidity from his pastor, who wasn't timid about expressing his hatred for whites and America in general. It is sad no matter where it originates.

  19. Hannah Grace says:

I don't care if you agree with Obama politically or not..our only response to his presidency should be prayer for him as he serves our country and that God would give him wisdom and perhaps change some of his political views..

I just hope that people who are not Christians will be wise enough to not label all of us with this unloving, and confused man.

  20. Gary says:

The world already hates us for who we serve. The only responsibility we have is to denounce this man for teaching false doctrine. Do you think Paul hung his head in shame when he encountered false teachers? He challenged them boldly in the name of our Lord.

  21. TREY MORGAN says:

Gary … Not quite sure who you're referring to here … the pastor or the President, when you speak of "this man." Nor am I understanding who is hanging their head in shame. And while I do remember Paul making a person blind, to get his attention … I don't remember Paul making a person dead or praying for him to die.

I do remember Paul asking us to pray for those in leadership positions.

  22. Karlene says:

Oh dear, how sad that there are preachers who perpetuate hate and unforgiveness–totally opposed to the Word–in the name of God.

As long as there is breath, there is hope for God to move in miraculous ways in the lives of both this preacher (he is no pastor–shepherd–but a hireling) and our President.

  23. Warren Baldwin says:

Hard to convince the world we have a message of love when they listen in and hear messages from the pulpit like this.

  24. Gary says:

Sorry I wasn't clear. I shouldn't post so late when I'm tired. I was refering to the preacher when I used the term false teacher. I'm just saddened that Christians have to tell the world that this doctrine (the preacher's) is not ours.

  25. Kyle Parker says:

I remember the "pray for your enemies" passage, I must have missed the "pray for your enemies to die" passage. Where is that one written. What a nutter!

  26. Mikes Sumondong says:

He's not a Christian at all as he doesn't live according to what Christ had told us to live which is to love, be a light, be a blessing to the world!
