CHOOSING NOT TO SAVE ALL MY BULLETS

My friend John asked me recently, “Why do you think people are willing to give their money when you ask?” I told him, “First, I try to only ask when there is a serious need. Second, I try not to use up my bullets and ask for money constantly. Occasionally gets more response than constantly.”

I’ve tried hard on my blog, to not use up my bullets, asking for things all the time. My main goal is the “Dump Fund” that I push hard for every May 5th. That will be a big push for me again this year, because by May 2010 the money we raised for the “Dump Fund” will be running out.

With all that said, I just want to tell you about something that came up yesterday. Marc Tindall, my missionary friend in Honduras, sent this message about an amazing opportunity to buy food…

“Got a call yesterday and was told – ‘We have 425,000 rice & veggie meals available, do you want them?’ Duh! Of course we want them. They are shipping December 30 and now we need to pray for our God to show how to pay for the shipment. An amazing value – $100,000 in food value for a shipping cost of something like $4500. Food for 300 kids/ 5x a week / 3+ years.”

He purchased 425,000 meals on faith. Enough meals to feed 300 hungry kids (just like the picture above), five days a week, for three years. $100,000 worth of food for roughly $4500.

I will tell you that I immediately reposted his note on facebook and to this point we’ve already raised $3000 of that $4500. Only $1500 to go. So, I ask humbly, scared to death that I may be using up my bullets, would you help a little on this amazing miracle of food? You can even skip my Christmas present this year and donate the $10 or whatever to feed the hungry kids (smile). If we can do this, it’ll be worth not saving all my bullets.

You can do so by sending a check:

Feed a hungry kid for three years … can’t think if a better way to spend a little Christmas money. Thanks again …

MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS STORY

Anytime someone mentions a Christmas play, I can’t help but think of the story about Wally. It’s my favorite Christmas story ever. I’m not sure where the story originated, but do know that I wish I had a heart like Wally’s. Here’s the story:

For years now whenever Christmas pageants are talked about in a certain little town in the Midwest, someone is sure to mention the name of Wallace Purling better known as little Wally. It was Wally’s performance in one annual production of the Nativity play that has slipped into the realm of legend. But the old-timers who were in the audience that night never tire of recalling exactly what happened.

Wally was nine that year and in the second grade, though he should have been in the fourth. Most people in town knew that he had difficulty in keeping up. He was big and clumsy, slow in movement and mind.

Wally fancied the idea of being a shepherd in the Christmas pageant that year, but the play’s director, Miss Lumbard, knew that there were too many lines for Wally to memorize. So she assigned him the role of the Innkeeper who only had a couple of lines. For weeks he practiced his part and his lines. Miss Lumbard’s biggest concern for the play that year was that Wally didn’t mess his part up and therefore embarrass himself.

It just so happened that the whole town had turned out the night of the big production. No one on stage or off was more caught up in the magic of the night than little Wallace Purling. Then the time came when Joseph appeared, slowly, tenderly guiding Mary to the door of the inn. Joseph knocked hard on the wooden door set into the painted backdrop. Wally the Innkeeper was there, waiting.

“What do you want?” Wally said, swinging the door open with a gruff gesture.

“We seek lodging.”

“Seek it elsewhere.” Wally looked straight ahead but spoke vigorously. “The inn is filled.”

“Sir, we have asked everywhere in vain. We have traveled far and are very weary.”

“There is no room in the inn for you.” Wally looked properly stern.

“Please, good innkeeper, this is my wife, Mary. She is heavy with child and needs a place to rest. Surely you must have some small corner for her. She is so tired.”

Now, for the first time, the Innkeeper relaxed his stiff stance and looked down at Mary. With that, there was a long pause, long enough to make the audience a bit tense with embarrassment.

“No! Begone!” the prompter whispered from behind the curtain.

“No!” Wally repeated automatically. “Begone!”

Joseph sadly placed his arm around Mary and Mary laid her head upon her husband’s shoulder and the two of them started to move away. The Innkeeper did not return inside his inn, however. Wally stood there in the doorway, watching the desperate couple. His mouth was open, his brow creased with concern, his eyes filling unmistakably with tears.

It was right then that Wally realized exactly what had happened that night. And suddenly this Christmas pageant became different from all the others.

“Don’t go, Joseph,” Wally cried out. “Bring Mary back.” And Wallace Purling’s face grew into a bright smile. “You can have my room.”

A few old grouches in tiny town thought that the pageant had been ruined. Yet most attending that night considered it the best Christmas pageant they had ever seen.

I’M SO BLESSED

I’m SO blessed that one week from today, I’ll be on a plane headed to Honduras. On this five day trip we will help feed, serve and build a house for Jesus. Jesus will be there, and we’ll see him when we look into the eyes of the poor and hungry of Honduras.

I’m SO blessed that I am going to get to serve at a sit-down banquet at a dump. Among the stench of rotting garbage, I’ll be honored to serve hot food to hungry people. The “Jesus Banquet” will be the most amazing event. We won’t be serving just sandwiches or beans & rice this time, but the people of the dump will eat meat at the Jesus banquet. Why? Because we want to give our best, because God sent his best to us (Jesus).
I’m SO blessed that I got to put a check in the mail yesterday to purchase the materials to build a home next week while we are in Honduras. The money for the home came from donations from local Childress people. It will be our first “Childress” house but by no means our last.
I’m SO blessed to be taking new tennis shoes, supplies and LOTS of goodies for every Casa kid, all donated by good people wanting to help out. There’s no doubt that our suitcases will be full and heavy.
I’m SO blessed that I’ll get to spend the week with Marc & Terri Tindall. I have fallen in love with these two people who have an amazing heart for people, missions and God.
What else does God have planned for us next week in Honduras? I don’t know, but I know it will be great, and I know I’ll be blessed.

WHAT I DID ON MY THANKSGIVING BREAK by Trey Morgan

I remember in 5th grade doing a paper on “What I did on my Thanksgiving break.” Although I can’t remember exactly what I did then, I thought I’d share a few things we did this year.
We enjoyed spending Thanksgiving at Lea’s brother’s house in the Dallas area. It was our year to spend Thanksgiving with Lea’s family. This was our first Thanksgiving without Taylor. He made the decision to come home for Christmas this year and stay in Miami for Thanksgiving. With him gone this year, I got a better understanding why “family” plays such a big role in making Thanksgiving special. Also Lea’s father, Stan, didn’t get to come. He’s been having some heart problems, and his doctor told him at the last minute he couldn’t go. He’s much better now that he had a pacemaker put in on Friday.
It was a great weekend with my favorite “F’s” … family, food, fun, football and fellowship. We spent the day eating, visiting and watching the Dallas Cowboys. I can’t remember a Thanksgiving with more desserts than this one.
On Friday we all went to Christmas in the Park at Six Flags. The park was decorated with Christmas lights, etc. Here are a few pictures from our weekend and time at Six Flags.
We spent a lot of time playing pool.
Cooper waiting to get into Six Flags.
Hanging with Sylvester.

Hanging with the Superheroes, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. I was wishing I had a cool Superhero name.
Although it was above freezing, Six Flags made snow for sledding.
Lea and Parker on the Superman.
Another with Sylvester.
Connor, Bugs and Me.
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

SPENDING TOO MUCH THIS CHRISTMAS

Did you know that this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, America will spent, 470.4 billion dollars? 470.4 billion. Here’s the amazing part, that is 11 million dollars every minute from Black Friday until Christmas Day.
This is the time of year when everyone goes a little shopping crazy and buys a little too much, despite the fact that we’ve told ourselves, “I’m not going to over-spend this year.” Soon for many, December’s Christmas gifts are January’s payments.
I’m not against buying things, but I do think it’s wrong for us to go over-board. I’m bothered by commercials that make us feel guilty if we don’t buy EVERYONE a gift. I’m tired of the television telling us what we DON’T have, when we really have more than we already need.
Did you know…
  • While you’re shopping and complaining about the price of gas, just remember that only 10% of the people in the world own a car and we have 3 or 4 of them!

  • As Americans, every year we spend 12 billion dollars on storage facilities to store our extra worldly possessions that we don’t have room for. And remember that some people don’t even have a home!!!
  • Today when you ask, “Where are we going to eat?” or “When are we going to eat?” just remember that some in this world will ask, “Are we going to get to eat?” We’ll throw out more Thanksgiving leftovers today than many in this world will eat in an entire week. I am thankful that we’re not finding our food at a garbage dump today.
We are very blessed people and we are living in a blessed nation. It’s okay to shop this Christmas season and enjoy a season of giving and receiving, just don’t go over-board. Remind yourself this time of year just how blessed you really are.
It was Jesus who said in Luke 12:15, “a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Jesus was so smart.

NOAH WAS AN AWESOME PREACHER

I’ve been reading and thinking about Noah this morning. For over 100 years while Noah built the ark, he preached to the lost people around him. When the ark was finished and he was done preaching, the invitation was given, and the only people willing to get on the ark with him was his family. [...]
