“For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing…” ~ 2 Corinthians 2:15I made a mad dash this morning for a donut from the local bakery. As I walked in the door I noticed that the aroma from the donuts were thick in the air. As always, that “donut” smell has a way of attaching itself to you for the rest of the day. No matter where I go or who I bump into, they will know I’ve been to the donut shop today. The smell is undeniable. When I go home for lunch, my wife will know where I’ve been today by smelling not asking. After school my kids will take one smell and say, “Dad, why didn’t you bring us a donut?” One thing is for sure, that smell will stay with me till I shower tonight. It’s an amazing aroma.

Paul said that as God’s children we put off another smell to those around us, the smell of Christ. What fragrance you release is important. And the only way to release a “Christ-aroma” is to be planted in Him, to know His word, and to be intimate with Him. Just like at the bakery, when I’m in close proximity to the donuts I smell like the donuts even when I move away. In the same way, when we are in close proximity to Jesus, who has the sweetest fragrance of them all, we will come away from Him smelling like Him. I don’t know about you, but I want people to “smell” Jesus when they come near me!
