A few things came to mind when I saw this video….

  1. If you’re going to lead the singing, know the words.
  2. In this case I’m all for instruments in worship (it helped drowned out the singing – ha).
  3. Don’t be drinking anything when you watch this video… you’ll spew it all over your computer before it’s over.
  4. I wonder if my friend Shane Coffman, who is a worship minister in Tulsa, has ever seen anything like this in real life?
  5. Didn’t I see this guy on one of the American Idol audition shows?

I second Lisa’s comment. My 5 and 3 year old giggled and giggled. Then Joshua said that sounds like Garfield or like a cat being run over. Thanks for the laugh!

here is a blog topic you can write, trey
how do we balance preparedness with heart??

we have a very spiritual and intelligent brother who is constantly concerned with the effort/appearance, ability/etc of those serving in the assembly. He feels it is offensive to God when people go up unprepared and are a distraction. even to the point that only those who are good at it should do it because God deserves our best. I think he makes some points but don’t agree totally with him.

Does God really look down and smile at us when we are worshipping Him with mediocrity and unpreparedness. Sure, He is a God of grace, but does that mean we let anyone and everyone get up and do things poorly, when it may be shabby.

just a rant and some thoughts. I struggle seeking the balance. We are talking about worshipping God and not just hanging out with Him.

  12. Shane Coffman says:

Let’s just say I’m glad that God looks at and hears the heart.

Have I seen this in real life? Not to this degree. But, phooey, I forgot a few words to 2 or 3 songs just this past Wednesday. That’s what I got for trying to go without slides.

However, I would like to point out that I didn’t try to make up for it with additional volume…

I’m with Brian – that would be a good topic to discuss.

  13. DJG says:

But isn’t there a differnce in a little unprepardness and show-boating???

That was hilarious and at the same time sad!

  14. jel says:

    B nice!

remind me never to sing in front of U~all!

  15. preacherman says:

  19. Roadtripray says:

Actually, this reminds me of my response to your blog post about “difficult people.” It was about the subject of making the worship service “better” by planning more. This person wants to add a layer of bureacracy to make the service more “polished.” My argument was

    * You can’t expect but so much out of volunteer musicians.

    * If you overplan you will overwhelm and turn the worship service into a show rather than worship

    * I already go to way too many meetings as it is.

I think we should be gracious and encourage people to participate, but whoever mentioned showboating I think nailed it right on the head in the case of the guy in the video.

Maybe next time they can find a good recording and he can lip sync to the tape.
