This is my new friend Mark. He came through Childress hitchhiking his way towards New Mexico. My friend Glenna spotted him in town and asked if I’d check on him.
I found him on the edge of town looking for a ride. I picked him up and asked if he’d like some lunch. I found out that Mark loves McDonald’s. Fish sandwiches, Dr. Pepper and strawberry shakes are his favorites. I told him if he didn’t get a ride out of town today, I’d find him a motel room for tonight. He immediately asked if he could pass up trying to get a ride today and just get the motel room now. He told me he hadn’t slept in a bed in a long time and really wanted to take a shower.
When I left him at his hotel room I asked for a picture. He was happy to obliged. I wish he would have smiled because he had the nicest smile. Looks can be deceiving … Mark was one of the nicest people I’ve ever helped.
I’m not telling you about Mark to say, “Look what I did.” I’m telling you about Mark to say, “Don’t miss out on the blessing of helping others.”
“Suppose someone has enough to live and sees a brother or sister in need, but does not help. Then God’s love is not living in that person.” ~1 John 3:17
