KOOTIES AT CAMP

Good morning.

I’m at camp this week (QMCC.org) with about 250 kids and staff. I’ve been directing this same session of camp for lots of years now, and my goal for the week is the same as it is ever year … make friends with the kid (or kids) who are all alone. A group of those kids are here every year. You will see them sitting or eating by themselves, and my goal is to get them involved in camp.

Last year I noticed a little girl eating by herself. I went and sat down by her and asked why she was eating all alone. She said, “There was a boy sitting here a few minutes ago, but when I sat down he said I had kooties and then got up and moved.” Then she paused and said,”What are kooties?” :)

I told her that kotties were nothing she needed to worry about and that boy was probably just too scared to sit by a girl as beautiful as she was. She then smiled a sweet smile.

I love kids with kooties… :)

Reporting on her Deer Run camp experience, my 8 year old granddaughter said "I have a boy's telephone number". I asked her to tell me about him. She said, "Oh he thinks all girls have kooties but he wrote his telephone number on my shirt before we left". Her mother said it was in big numbers. They weren't far down the road until she asked for her mother's cellphone to call him. She denied her the use but is steeling herself and praying about the days to come with vivacious, energetic Molly. She likes boys now because she loves to play rough and tumble rather than be preening as most of the girls do.
Blessings on your desire to seek out the marginal.

Good for you! Having been a camp director in Florida and then involved as a staff member in CA, there are always those loners. Had I ever gone to camp as a kid, I would have been one of those loners. Hope you have a great week and meet some great kids.

Thanks for talking to the kids with kooties. I probably would've been a kootie kid.

That breaks my heart for that sweet girl! Nothing worse than feeling alone. I bet you made her day!

I am so glad you notice when people are afraid, or feel alone or have no self-esteem. We need more Trey's in the world. gmj

Awww, how sad! That little girl may find someone at QMCC just for her. But, thankfully you were there to help her heart right at that moment.

QMCC is where Joe and I met and have been married now for 21 years!

Have a great week. We are planning to be there for Wed. night worship.
