I’m at camp this week (QMCC.org) with about 250 kids and staff. I’ve been directing this same session of camp for lots of years now, and my goal for the week is the same as it is ever year … make friends with the kid (or kids) who are all alone. A group of those kids are here every year. You will see them sitting or eating by themselves, and my goal is to get them involved in camp.
Last year I noticed a little girl eating by herself. I went and sat down by her and asked why she was eating all alone. She said, “There was a boy sitting here a few minutes ago, but when I sat down he said I had kooties and then got up and moved.” Then she paused and said,”What are kooties?”
I told her that kotties were nothing she needed to worry about and that boy was probably just too scared to sit by a girl as beautiful as she was. She then smiled a sweet smile.
I love kids with kooties…
