I heard it again last night. In fact I hear it nearly every night. Cooper repeats the same thing every night as I put him to bed, “Dad, will you wake me up early in the morning so I can get up and play. It’s going to be a great day.”
As I listened to him last night, I thought to myself, how much I wish I had that kind of enthusiasm for every new day that God gives me. I wish every night as I climbed into bed that I had that same anticipation for tomorrow that he does.
So this morning in my prayer time, and every morning in my prayer time for a while, I asked God to give me the excitement for a new day like a child has. I want to be so exited about the opportunities of the new day before me that I don’t want to sleep in. I want to see every new day through the eyes of a child.
As I got up this morning I’ve realized that God has given me another day. I’m excited about the possibilities this new day brings. I’ll walk with God today; I’ll look for people that God wants me to minister to today, and I’ll do it with enthusiasm because I’ve been given a new day. As Cooper says, “It’s going to be a great day!”

This post just made my day! There is so much to learn through our kids.
Hi Trey – this was a great article! I’m going to have this story for motivation for a long time.
Tell cooper thanks for me, Trey. Thanks for sharing.
I love your son’s attitude!
I wish I woke up more days (or went to bed more nights) thinking this thought. A huge thanks to Cooper for the reminder, and to you for sharing the little lessons in life you learn from you kids.
Little boys and the eyes they see the world through are truly a gift from God. Hold on and cherish these times my brother.
I have a “Cooper attitude” as I look forward to being with my church family tomorrow.
Thanks, Trey -
That was a GREAT post!
Cheers & Blessings to you all today!
Dee
Hey Trey, you could write a book of Cooperisms. Well – a minibook. The kid has a great outlook on life!
Of all the childhood things we grow out of, it’s truly sad that we grow out of this one. This made my day!!
That is a GREAT attitude to have! And Wendy is right…always LOVE your Cooper stories! Thanks for sharing!
Trey,
I know how cool that is with my 2 year old. He is pumped about every new day that he even wakes us up sometimes at 5:00 in the morning wanting to play with his cousin who is in town for a couple of days. Trying to get me back to sleep was insanely hard. My dad told me this morning to cherish these times.
Hey bro,
Thanks so much for lunch today. It was nice to meet you and your family. I appreciated your lesson today as well. I hope you can keep up your blog for a long time. We’ll try to take care of all the kids you guys are sending to AIM
I’m a morning person, so I usually wake up in a good mood. But I don’t usually remember to thank God for the great day ahead. Thanks, Cooper, for giving me a “heads up” on my prayer to God.
