Over the past two years, my oldest son Taylor, has been in the AIM (Adventures In Missions) program. AIM has been such
a blessing and has given him a chance to work, serve and grow. Now, he’s a week away from finishing up his time on the mission field in Miami / Homestead, Florida and I’m headed that way on Monday to bring him home.
Here’s part of Taylor’s newsletter that he wrote to those that have helped support him:
“I end my AIM time here in the month of July … and this fall semester, I will be starting college at South Planes College. Reflect with me over these last 2 years of my life: With your support I have built a solid foundation on Jesus. I have given these last two years of my life to full time ministry, and I would trade it for nothing. The Lord has been molding me and shaping me like a jar of clay. Again, none of this would be possible without you.
Of course, Lea and I are proud of Taylor, what he’s done and who he’s become. We’re excited that he’ll be closer to home. We’ve especially missed him these past two years at holidays, vacations and family get-togethers.
I’m flying into Miami on Monday and then we’ll start driving back to Texas on Wednesday. HERE’S THE MAP of the the route we’ll be driving. Any suggestions on what or who we should stop and see on our trip home?

I guess it would be out of your way to stop in Midland?
If only Midland was a tad closer, I’d swing by.
I can only think of 3 people on that route, but they aint us
Safe trip! there and back
Thanks Jel.
Make a quick northern detour and come preach for us in Ashland, Ohio…..
Jeff … I’d sure wish I could do that. Could we also catch a 4-miler together?
Has it been 2 years since he left already?! Crazy.
It does seem that two years have flown by. But then again, at other times, it seems like it’s just crawled.
Well, you’ll pass about 1.5 miles from my house, so you can come by if you’d like. I know how much you’d like a picture made with me.
Only if I could put the picture on my blog.
You need to go to roadsideamerica.com
The iphone has an app that I got when we went to Tennessee. It has random things that you’d never see without it and some you wont want to see anyway. But we used this to find our roadside stops, just funny places to stop and stretch your legs for a minute. Check it out!Let me know if you find anything fun!
Dixie … I will check it out. I’m not sure we’ll have a lot of time for stops, but one thing we have decided is that we’re not going to eat at chain restaurants … only diners and dives.
I am pretty sure that Beijing is on the way, so I’ll be expecting you any day…
I’ll even have cereal waiting for you!!
Which you can eat with chopsticks
Cereal with chopsticks … love the idea. I’ll see if Google Maps has a road to China.
If you like WWII history there is the National D-Day museum in New Orleans. Ft. Daulphin outside of Mobile Bay (Civil War fort). Can you tell we are into history!! Don’t forget Disney World (my favorite!!) and don’t forget about the tar balls along Pensacola beach
Thanks for the heads up, Carol.
I will pass on the tar though.
Give us an hour notice and well meet you at the Cracker Barrel close to Tyler!
Have a safe and wonderful trip! Road trips are so great for heart to heart talks and laughter and fun. Blessings.
Seriously: 806-470-****
Sid and Amy Walker
I got the number … you are TOO sweet. Not sure where or when we’ll be that way, but IF we look like we can pull it off, I’ll let you know a day or two ahead.
SSOO close!! You guys are gonna SLIDE right under me……….
Congratulations, Lea and Trey on a job well-done. Your son is articulate, smart and kind. What an amazing legacy!!! And because of your influence, he will pass along all he has learned, in deed and words. You have grown a solid “man”, not all parents can say that!
And Congratulations to Taylor!
Bud, you ONLY THINK you are about to take a “road trip”! The real adventure is just starting!! But God be Praised ~ you are well-equipped, and you can take on the world! BEST OF LUCK as you begin this exciting new journey of life! Don’t miss a moment of it!!
again………SSSSSOOOO close……..(WINK!) ~ Maggie Beth
I am looking forward to spending about 3 day, locked in a car, visiting with my son.
OH!!! Just saw you comment about not eating at chains….
If even remotely possible!! You gotta stop at Lu-Lu’s Homport Marina (It is owned by Lucy Buffet — Jimmy Buffett’s Sister’s!!)
IT RULES and ROCKS!!! FOOD is crazy GOOD!!!And the atmosphere is delightful!! Definitely “Cheeseburger in paradise” material! Jimmy is playing there on the 11th for “oil-spill relief”.

I will check lulu’s out.
Come to Waterview Church of Christ on Sunday on your way home and we’ll let Taylor pick where he’d like to eat for lunch….?!
Donna, I sure wish that was possible. I’ve got to be back to preach on Sunday. When you work one day a week, they expect you to show up for that one day. LOL
I hear you…. it was worth a try!
Prayers for a safe and enjoyable trip hanging out with your son!!
Thanks Donna. Next time
Well, I’m only a little over an hour and a half out of your way….it’s not like you have family or anything that live in this town..just sayin..!!! LOL
I will for sure make a trip to Childress some weekend, before Taylor AND Parker leave for college!! WITH some kind of “chocolate dessert”!!!!!!!!
Sandi and “Sandi’s Good Stuff” are ALWAYS welcome in our home.
Come anytime.
You could pick up any tar balls you see as you drive along the coast.
That’s all SO terrible.
I’ve got a long list of recommendations – The Boiling Pot in Tillman’s Corner, AL; The Shed BBQ in Ocean Springs, MS; Lea’s Lunchroom in Lecompte, LA; meat pies in Natchitoches, LA – all just a short hop off the interstate. (I spend a fair amount of time on these roads.)
Whatever you do, when you come through Baton Rouge, if it’s Wednesday evening about 7:00, stop in and sit with us for a bit at the South Baton Rouge Church of Christ (www.sbrcc.org). Whether you take I-12 or I-10, we’re nestled right in the corner where they meet. We might even find somebody that’ll take you home for the evening.
Joe, well done on all the great recommendations. Thank you my friend. You are more than good to me.
Be sure to make a left at Albuquerque or you’ll end up who knows where…
Philip, if I get anywhere near Albuquerque, then I’m REALLY off course.
My heart and prayers are with you both. We love you Childress Morgans very much. Take care of each other.
Love ya, Mom
Taylor is so handsome in the picture you posted.
We’re not on the route between Florida and Childress, but we are on the route between Childress and Levelland – plan it right and I’ll take you out to eat. (Hopefully by then I will have found a diner or dive in Plainview…)
I’m going to take you up on this next time. Especially since my boys are going to college there this fall.
Hey, I would love to treat you guys in Dallas! If you would like. Just let me know. Totally my treat!!
Thanks Jenny. I hope to make a Ranger’s game with you someday.
I think Brett Favre’s house is on that route. I would stop by there and pay your respects to the legend… FYI, Tony Romo was “home” this month. Apparently, I missed his visit.
Your message did go through. Please don’t make me go see Brett Farve.
