IS IT CHRISTMAS TIME YET?

Yea, it’s that time of year again. Christmas! At least in my book “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.” I have always loved Christmas, especially as a kid. I know it’s a little early for some, but not for me. Call me warped, but I actually had Christmas music going in my office last week and it sounded great.

When I was young I’d always ask mom if we could put the Christmas tree up the day after Halloween. I’d beg, whine and say, “Please,” at least fifty-two times, but she’d never give in. Never once did we get to put the Christmas tree up right after Halloween. I couldn’t wait to get married and get away from a mean woman like that.

I asked Lea yesterday, “You know what would be cool to do right after Halloween this year?” She quickly replied, “I don’t know, but we’re not putting the Christmas tree up right after Halloween this year. So don’t even ask!”

DRAT, that mean woman!!!!

Make sure you take the poll on the left hand side of the page. Maybe Lea will give in if I get enough “yes” votes.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love the turkey dinner (Pat is a great cook). I love the leftovers (turkey pot pie, turkey sandwiches, etc.). Putting up a Christmas tree after Halloween is messing with Thanksgiving. Don’t mess with Thanksgiving!

  3. lisa says:

I’m all about Christmas … but I like to wait til after Thanksgiving too. I don’t think it’s quite as special if you celebrate it all year-round. :)

  4. Matt says:

    Hey Trey!
I Love Christmas! I use to drive my mother nuts. I would start playing Christmas music early and often. My favorite was, “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas” and in or house we never sang, “I am dreaming of a white Christmas” because that meant dad had to go work the roads instead we sang, “I am dreaming of a pink, purple, polka dotted Christmas”

What are some of your faves???

    Matt

The thing that is most anoying to my lovley wife is my responce to Christmas. I do not know how to receve gifts graciously. Buying the present is the best part you get to imagine how the recepiants life will change upon receving such a great gift! Oh the joy! then I open it and say thanks & pour another cup of coffee which just lets the air right out of her. Then I feel bad cause she feels bad and all I can think is COME ON VALENTINES DAY!!!!

    ho, ho, ho! thanks trey

I love Christmas but am getting to where I hate more and more having to decorate. Actually, make that hating to take down decorations and put them away.

  8. David says:

Christmas Music Policy at my house:

Christmas music may be played according to the folling schedule:
Christmas Eve 6:00pm until 3:00pm Christmas Day.

    Exceptions:
    1. Christmas is being celebrated on an alternate day (i.e out of town family can’t make it on the actual Christmas day). If this exception is invoked, Christmas music may be played only on the day of the gift exchange from the time the first person gets up until 3:00pm.

    2. Christmas is being celebrated in the evening. Music playtime will them be extended until 9:00PM (Central time). Host receives the right to suspend play for 6 hours in the morning in order to equal the prior 3:00PM rule.

    3. If any aforementioned rules are violated or question, host (read: man-of-the-house) may discontinue all further holiday music for the day. A second violation will mean further restricted hours the following year. And it WILL NOT being forgotten by then.

  9. David says:

    4. If Christmas falls on any day on which the Dallas Cowboys are playing, all music will be suspended for 3.5 hours or until completion of the game.

  10. Philip Murphy says:

She’s probably concerned about the fire hazards created from a 2 month old dead piece of cedar/pine.

I think you should dress up as a Christmas tree for Halloween, and just leave your costume lying around the living room for a couple of weeks.

  17. Greg says:

BTW, if you haven’t indulged in Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Christmas music, give yourself a gift of their CDs!! Singing isn’t all that great w/ the male voices, but the instrumentalists are outstanding. Some really good hard-rocking seasonal songs.

  18. Alan Gable says:

Come on, Trey. Time to pull out all the stops. Perhaps a cleverly placed idea in the mind of some children would put a little yuletide pressure on the Mrs….You’ve got her out-numbered….

  19. TREY MORGAN says:

Greg, I’m a huge TSO fan. I’m really hoping to see them in concert in December.

Alan – I’ve already tried that. She won’t budge.

    Trey –
I totally agree on putting the Christmas tree up after halloween. We go to the in laws or to my parents for thanksgiving anyway.. So why not get it done when your in the mood for it? Other wise by Christmas you don’t want to do and you will find yourself at walmart in the christmas section buying an inflateable christmas for outdoor use only and putting it up inside…

  23. Cornelius Crew says:

If you’ve wanted to do this your whole life I think one year youshould get to. I vote YES! I think you’ll be tired of it by Christmas but you should at least get the chance to do it. In your mom’s defense, she may not have let you put up decorations early but she sure does go all out for christmas (and every other holiday!) She knows how to make it special even if you dont get to celebrate 2 months early! Hope you get you christmas wish!(or would it be your halloween wish?!)

  24. TREY MORGAN says:

Mrs Cornelius — yea, you came by. And yea, you voted yes.

    I do have a good mom, don’t I?

  25. Cornelius Crew says:

    Mr. morgan,
I come by alot, just dont always have a chance to respond… i listened to your “be like Jesus” sermon last sunday when i was stuck home with sick kids–really enjoyed it & i am striving to become a DISCIPLE not just a churchgoer. thanks for the reminder! and yes you do have an awesome mom! love you

  • it's still early. :)
  • no worries. Luke is a very popular gospel during the Christmas season. 😜 #BabyJesusStory
  • Mitch Moreland has a combined 1.6 WAR since the start of 2011 at a premium position (DH/1B). That position needs to produce.
  • definitely don't disagree with that. We will miss his glove. But he had such a quiet bat for someone at first base.
  • I only disliked him when he was at the plate.
