Last week while in Miami I had a chance to run on South Beach with a big group of men. One of the men I had the privilege to meet was a multi-millionaire. I’m not sure I’ve ever met a millionaire before, and I surely haven’t run with one.

As we ran I found out that he was in his early 50’s and single with a great desire to have a family. The part that really interested me was the fact that he was now on a reality television show (Millionaire Matchmaker) trying to match him with just the perfect woman. As we ran he told me he had lots of gorgeous women to choose from, but none of them had really “clicked” with him. I tried to encourage him and remind him, “Be patient, it’ll happen.”

As we ran in silence for the next half mile, I’ll be honest, I couldn’t help but think things like, “This guy has got it made,” and “He’s got it all … he’s a multi-millionaire, houses in Miami and Los Angeles, on television and dozens of gorgeous women to choose from.”

As we ran passed my family playing on the beach, they all cheered, “Go Dad!” He asked, “Wow, is that your family?” I told him it was. He asked about them, and I told him I had married my high school sweetheart, we’d been married 21 wonderful years and had four awesome boys. Right then, the guy with everything slowed his pace a little, looked me in the eyes and said, “You realize don’t you, you are richer than I ever will be.”

He was 100% right. I have what money can’t buy … I am rich in marriage, rich in family and was the richest man on the beach that day.

Awesome, Trey! God has blessed you beyond compare, and he is continuing to do so. I'm glad to know you and so many others who are spiritual gazillionaires!

He is wealthy, and wise enough to know at this point in his life he has no real wealth. Having married my high school sweetheart with over 40 years of togetherness behind us (35 married), I relate to this well … except for the running part.

BTW, have you heard about Rick Johnson, preacher for Antioch Church in California? Wonderful man … running on Saturday and dropped dead of a massive heart attack. Not to discourage you from running, just thought you might want to pray for Rick's family and for the Antioch church.

Greg – Sad story … that hurts my heart for his family. Although, not a bad way to go.

This is awesome not only because it is true, but also because even with having "everything" he was still able to recognise it at truth.

    You are a blessed man.

I'm thinking you should have invited him to join you at the Tulsa Workshop. He could probably find a much better "possible" mate there on reality TV. Just thinking outloud here. :)

Trey, How very cool!! You chased down the Raven, to fulfill something on your bucket list ~ And God, OVERFLOWED YOUR BUCKET!!

I relate to the rich man; not in checking account, but in heart "bank". However, I am trusting God, not to bring me Mr. Right, but, Mr. Right On Time.

Trey, (I believe) you left a very large deposit in this man's heart!!

You are rich in so many ways when it comes to your family. I pray the discussion you had with that man will help him consider God's way as being the profitable way to live.

Great post! It reminds me of a song that goes:

    I'm a millionaire
    I'm a millionaire
My Father is rich in houses and land
    And I'm his heir

    I'm a millionaire
    I'm a millionaire
    I'm a multi-multi-multi-millionaire!

  • He was pretty tough to listen to as well.
  • As crazy as it might sound, Chris Collinsworth just might be worse to listen to than the song Christmas Shoes.
  • Please remember that some Christmas music is incredibly offensive to people with grandmothers who actually were run over by reindeer.
  • Unfortunately, not a great night for "bobcats." :)
  • Chin up Childress Bobcats. We couldn't be prouder. Great fight tonight.
