I LOVE CHURCH

I’ll be honest with you, I absolutely love church. In fact I’ll go as far as saying, it’s down right fun. Yes, church is fun. I know there are some who might think the words “fun” and “church” don’t belong together, but I think they do.

I especially love the Wednesday night bible studies. I think I sat through the whole Wednesday night bible study last night with a big grin on my face. I felt like a kid at Six Flags who was having a blast. There’s something about those Wednesday night services that put the charge back in my battery and keep me going until Sunday. I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to go to church. When I get together with my church family, life is good.

“The church is kind of like Noah’s ark, it stinks sometimes, but if we get out we will drown.”

I do know that church is made up of imperfect people (including me), so there are a few things I have realized that makes me love them even more…

  • The church is the light of the world and light will always attract bugs. There will always be a few old bugs (people different from you) in the church. Love them without partiality.
  • People in the church are imperfect. When they hurt you, love them anyway.
  • There will be an old grouch or two in the church. Love them anyway.

For the most part, the church has the best people in the world in it. The church is full of thousands and thousands of Christ-like people. People who make me proud to say, “I’m a Christian.”

We need the church. It is an essential part of God’s plan for our lives. Maybe Shane Claiborne put it best when he said, “The church is kind of like Noah’s ark, it stinks sometimes, but if we get out we will drown.”

Let me say it again, “I love church!”

Great post! Sometimes I get frustrated, but then I think of Peter…where else would I go? There’s no place like it, and I don’t know how people go through hard times in life without a church family. I know our church family really rallied around me and my wife during a tough ime, and I constantly get checked on and prayed for by my church family. I love them, and I’m so glad to have them. What a great place to be!

I am with you! I can’t wait until the next time that we get together…I start counting the minute I leave the building from the current meeting! I have not always felt this way about church…matter of fact there was a time in my life when any excuse to not go was good enough to keep me home. Not so any longer! I love the group that meets at the OPEN and feel so blessed to be with them~

Wow. After reading that post, the famous line (with a variation) from “When Harry Met Sally” came to mind:

    “I’ll have what [he’s] having.”

Well said! I, too, love being with my church family.

Finding the right “Church” can be as easy as putting the shoes on! But then again I may be drowning since I am not sure what “Church” to be apart of! :) Left the last one because they dwelled on my sickness rather than who I am! :)
Trey I can swim at sea but like all good swimmers I need a rest! Can I rest in your “Church” for a bit?

I love church too! When I look across the aisles and see every unique individual, I am thrilled because I know we were all created in God’s image. We don’t all come in the same package, we all have different stories/testimonies, different backgrounds, different gifts, yet we are all united by the fact that we are God’s children.

Love is a wonderful and powerful thing! I am not perfect, I can be a bug, sometimes I’m grouchy, at times I even get on my own nerves; but God loves me anyway!

I just listened to your podcast sermon, “The Church Has Left The Building,” and it was great! After I listened to it, I read “So You Don’t Want To Go To Church Anymore” which is not really about not going to church but about what “church” really is. It brings up the sadness in teh idea that so many have come to think of CHURCH as a building and not the people. Sometimes I wish we could have church at a different place every Sunday and/or Wednesday so we wouldn’t get so wrapped up in the building and the legalistics of such, and focus on the people that make up the church body and our relationships with them and especially with Him. Have you read the above mentioned book? It reminds me a lot of your sermon, so you might enjoy it!

Howdy Cowgirl … Read the book and loved it. Challenged my thinking, my theology and my faith.

    I highly recommend it!

  • good list. Don't forget Nickelback, OJ, ISIS and beer-throwing Blue Jay fans.
  • He was pretty tough to listen to as well.
  • As crazy as it might sound, Chris Collinsworth just might be worse to listen to than the song Christmas Shoes.
  • Please remember that some Christmas music is incredibly offensive to people with grandmothers who actually were run over by reindeer.
  • Unfortunately, not a great night for "bobcats." :)
