I GOT SPAMMED and OTHER NEWS

  • I got spammed yesterday. Fifty-seven times someone posted on the comment sections of my blog a link for “cheap Canadian Viagra.” It took me a couple of hours to delete all of them. I had to turn on the “word verification” for comments. I don’t know about you, but I hate doing word verification just to leave a comment. I’ll leave the word verification turned on for a while and then turn it back off and see if they are gone.
  • We took a quick three day vacation this week. We went to Dallas where we lounged by a pool, relaxed and then caught a Texas Ranger’s baseball game. The lowly Rangers were playing the even worse Kansas City Royals. My friend Dane got us some great tickets twenty-three rows up and right behind home plate. In the eighth inning we had an usher that I’d been visiting with, ask if we’d like to go sit on the front row. I told him we’d love to. He moved us down to the the very first row right behind home plate. That was awesome. We also caught a ball during warm ups before the game and then later had two players and the manager sign it. Although the Royals won the game we still had a blast. I don’t think I mentioned that it was dollar hot dog night. The four of us polished off 18 hot dogs during the game.
  • Parker, who will turn 16 in about a month, bought his first vehicle this week. It’s a 1996 Chevy Z-71 pickup. We had been looking for a while and he was wanting a pickup. The body is dinged up in places, but mechanically it’s a good pickup. Besides we can use it for hunting, cutting wood, and working and leave my pickup in the garage.
  • The Childress church has a new web page http://www.childresschurchofchrist.com/. It’s nothing fancy, just a way for people to find us and information about the church. Swing by, take a look and tell me what you think. All it cost me was $10 for the domain name. I did the rest of it for free with WordPress.
  • I’m in the middle of a sermon series on Sunday’s called, “Our Modern Moral Dilemmas.” It focuses on how the values and morals of our nation and families have changed in the past 50 years. The second lesson in the series “Television, Satan’s Favorite Tool,” is posted on the sermon link if you want to listen.

Have a great weekend, and if you’re in need of some cheap Canadian Viagra, just let me know … I think I still have the link :)

Getting spammed is awful. It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Luckily, it is only on one post. I set my comments to require my approval. Now I can go in, select all comments as spam, and uncheck the few that aren’t spam.

I may try the word verification feature myself.

Trey, one of the grand things about WordPress is the management of SPAM! I loathe word verification, but certainly understand.

When your shipment of viagra comes in, remember to share.

Your son’s truck is awesome. I’m jealous. My son has a Ford F-150 … sigh… I’m still driving a Chrysler minivan from the days when we needed one. Maybe a truck for me one day. I want a Nissan Titan, but I’m not sure that’s in my future $$$$$.

Loved your sermon on Satan’s favorite tool…well done.

And not to keep heaping on praise … but your wordpress church site is very well done. Good job.

You certainly are blessed to have friends who can give you tickets to special events. Can we get an introduction? 😉 Looks like you had a blast.

Now Parker is a “good ole boy.” The pickup looks great. I thought my DH had lived past a pickup, but he recently got a 1988 Mazda pickup in good condition as a second vehicle. What is it with guys and pickups? Now if it was a BMW convertible, that would really be something! Oh, well, I will never own that one in my lifetime.

Sorry about your spam. I’m glad AOL catches them for me on my email address. But I still have to check and delete which is a drag.

    Trey,
One thing you can do is take the annoymous comments off of your blog. I did it all the spam stopped including all the links to porn sites. I think if you can’t make yourself known when commenting then you shouldn’t post. Just my oppinion. I like to know who is posting and commenting. It makes it more intersting and take care of alot of the comments, language that you don’t want.

Cool truck. Lets see how it handles off road, covered all in mud.

See how fast it can go! Remember if your not first, your last. :-) See if the Childress cops can out run it.

I do need some tools to make the site alot better, but it comes with cost! I would be happy with having frontpage as I have frontpage server exstentions built into the site. I was wondering if anyone had frontpage? Parker congrats on getting your first truck! Drive safe man! Trey I seen the new christian website for the Church and I like it! But I think even You could do better! :) hehe

    Hey, Trey –

I’ve been keeping up with your blog posts this week, but am way behind in commenting. Sorry about that. Sounds like you’ve been getting some “unwanted” comments, too.

You really need to switch over to not only WordPress, but go with TheoBloggers, three great Christian guys (ministers) who for only $3 or $4 a month will get you your own domain name, you can go with more than one blog on the family plan and they will help you create and maintain your site with grace and lots of expertise.

Check out their website for the blogs they sponsor. They include not only mine, but a good many others, including Patrick Mead’s two blogs and novel projects and Jim Martin’s blog, “Place for the God-Hungry.” You’d be really happy you did. I got to where I hated Blogger because it was so screwed up all the time and difficult to work with. WordPress is MUCH better. I’ve been really happy and have a lot better look with it and with TheoBloggers help.

That’s my tip for the day!

Glad you had a good baseball get away! And I like the pickup, too. Tom wants one again so badly.

Cheers & Blessings to you all today!

    Dee

    P. S. Don’t forget to send photos to my latest photo contest over at Finding Direction. You should have some great baseball game shots, hunh?!?

    don’t turn off anoynymos comments
if you do that, a person must have a blogger or google account to leave a comment period.

    that stinks

  10. TREY MORGAN says:

Anonymous … thanks for the reminder. I’m not planning on turning of “anonymous” comments.

  11. TREY MORGAN says:

Dee … thanks for the thoughts on Theobloggers. I may have to check it out. I’ve really like blogger. I do get tired of poor choices of templates.

  12. Monalea says:

To get rid of spam……..invite some friends over whom you are not to found of and break out the pan and fry up the spam and serve it to them with a little mustard. It can actually turn into some memory making times.

    Love Parker’s truck!

    Monalea

PS I love the word verification thing……it actually makes me feel good about my own spelling.

  13. Matthew says:

Yes, I have been getting spam a lot. Tons of car ads. And you are right, I do not like the verification process either, but might have to have it.

  14. Timbra Wiist Owner/Photographer says:

  18. Shane Coffman says:

I was watching that Texas – KC game on TV. Too bad I didn’t know to look for you.

I’m a Royals fan through thick and thin. Mostly thin the past 10 years, but it was good in the 80’s.

  19. Brooke says:

    I can’t believe Parker is 16 and driving…I feel so old :(

  • He was pretty tough to listen to as well.
  • As crazy as it might sound, Chris Collinsworth just might be worse to listen to than the song Christmas Shoes.
  • Please remember that some Christmas music is incredibly offensive to people with grandmothers who actually were run over by reindeer.
  • Unfortunately, not a great night for "bobcats." :)
  • Chin up Childress Bobcats. We couldn't be prouder. Great fight tonight.
