Hobo Nick

Hobo Nick (BTW: Just so you won’t get us mixed up … that’s me on the right). :)

Meet my new friend Nick. Nick is a homeless man who is hanging out in Childress today. Nick is in day 104 of a trek where he is walking (no rides) from Florida to California. He told me he was doing all this so he can learn to put more of his faith in God to take care of his needs and not rely on material things so much. He started with no money and allows God to meet his daily needs. So far he said that God has taken better care of him than he ever imagined. I offered him a place to stay and a shower, but he said he was good. Nick said what he loves the most is when people just ask him how he’s doing or just stops to check on him. When I left him I gave him a little money and told him to use it for emergencies. He told me “no” and that he didn’t need it, and we finally agreed that he’d take it and share it with another homeless person down the road that could really use it. I enjoyed getting to know Nick, his faith and his vision. I definitely could use to learn some things from him.
