Today is officially the start of baseball season, and I’d like to take a moment to wish everyone a happy start to the 2010 baseball season. Even though I’m not a Red Sox fan, I still enjoyed last night’s game and seeing the Boston Red Sox come from behind to beat the New York Yankees and their 300 million dollar payroll.
As for my picks this year, I think the Yankees will repeat by beating the Chicago Cubs in yet another disappointment for the Cubbie fans. Why would I pick the Yankees? It’s simply because every time I pick a team to win it all, they don’t. Somehow I’m going with the jinx that if I pick the Yankees, they won’t win. :)
Today at 1:00 pm, the Morgan family will be rooting for our favorite team, the Texas Rangers, as they kick off their 2010 season. Then this Saturday, we’re going to the Ballpark in Arlington, to see them play the Seattle Mariners. We’re excited.
So happy opening day everyone. Enjoy a few hotdogs today and may 2010 be a great baseball season.

Can I have "picks" and it not have anything to do with the post-season? Favorite NL team (to the degree a non-baseball "fan" can have a favorite team): Braves. Favorite AL team: Don't have one, but haphazardly follow the Angels simply because they are (1) NOT the Dodgers and (2) a local team.

My favorite sport is sand curling. That big, heavy thing doesn't move as well as on ice, but that helps slow down the game to where we can almost figure out just where any degree of athleticism or talent comes into play!

  2. L.C.T. says:

I'm excited to be going to my first baseball game ever this June in LA!

  3. e3 says:

    Team – The Cubs
NL – The Cubs (not really but a boy can dream can't he)
AL – What's the AL? Didn't know what was real baseball.

  4. nick gill says:

I don't know how I remain friends with people like you, Trey. :)

    Team – The Evil Empire
NL – Phillies (what a juggernaut)
AL – Rangers (to counter the Morgan jinx!)

And e3, the AL is that group that has beaten the pants off the NL in interleague play, All-Star games, and World Series for most of the past twenty years. :)

But I agree that the DH is ugly. Add 2 more roster slots at the ML-level (let every team carry 27 players instead of 25, to counter the union complaint about loss of jobs) and dump the DH.

  5. TREY MORGAN says:

Nick … Not nice. I hate the "counter jinx" :)

  6. Andre says:

I got into to baseball last season, and I really like the Phillies, so I am sticking by them this year.

  7. Kyle Parker says:

My favorite team are the St. Louis Cardinals. My grandpa used to sit on his front porch drinking coffee (yes, in the Summer) and listening to them on the radio. That makes them alright with me.

As for picks, I'll take St. Louis in the NL and, sadly the Yankees in the AL.

  8. Brian says:

    who I like (root for)
    mets, and cubs in NL
    Tampa Bay in AL

who I like (to win it)

no tickets yet, but hope to see my Mets play this summer

  9. JD says:

NL- The Cubs, it's only been 102 years.

  10. loveintheheartland says:

    Team – NY Yankees!!!

    NL – Cubs
    AL – Yankees (of course!)

  11. Ryan Tate says:

I'm a huge Cincinnati Reds fan, grew up in Ohio. And I despise the Indians.

    NL – Philadelphia Phillies
    AL – Tampa Bay Rays

And I think the Rays are going to win it all this year.

  12. Jeff says:

So you're already trying to jinx the Evil Empire, nice.

I'm going with the Cardinals to win it all.
    NL = Cards
AL = Whoever is playing the Yankees or Red Sox.

  13. Donna G says:

    The Braves!! America's Team

Not much of an AL fan…but Tampa Bay is okay so I will go with them.

  14. Anonymous says:

in my house will would pick the cubs (lord help him see the light) and I would have to pick the best team around the white sox. SO its been 102 yrs it will be 102 before the cubs win it again. And yes this saturday I will be routing for the rangers as we sit in center field I'd rather watch an al game before a nl game any day I guess it all depends on what side of the city you were raised on. Go white sox as will screams go cubbies

  15. Anonymous says:

I don't have a "team" per se. I always followed players. I can say I don't like the Yankees or Red Sox. They are to overexposed and hyped. If I had to pick a team it would be the Rangers for proximity sake even though they can never put it together. The late summer slumps are getting old.
AL- Yankees (best players money can buy)
NL- Dodgers look good with Torre, Cards will be monsters, but my monopoly money is on Doc Halladay and PHILLY.

  16. Glenn says:

    – Lifelong Cards fan. (Prince Albert homers x2 on opening day – Check.)
    – Lived in Big D for 5 years when Sierra/Gonzo/Pudge/Julio/Inky were the hosses, and while Nolan was there, and subsequently become a Ranger fan.

    – Cards will take the NL (of course)
    – Yanks will take the AL and lose to the Cards 4-2 in the series. 😉

    What a glorious day.

  17. L Lane says:

Rangers are in 1st place…good deal!

  18. Savannah says:

I am an Astros fan, but will root for the Rockies as long as the Astros aren't playing.

I am also realistic, so I would have to go with whoever it was on ESPN who said that the Rocks are likely to go all the way this year: Jim Tracy is the man. Poor 'Stros just don't have a chance…

  19. Robin says:

I'm a Rangers fan and an on-and-off Braves fan. More on than off now since I have some "family ties" to them. My wife's dad was drafted by the Braves back in the late 70's or early 80's, but he later found out he was 2 weeks too old to be drafted, so he had to play AAA ball. Later, they got this pitcher, Steph's cousin, who was really good. His name is Greg. :)

picks: I'm thinking Phillies & Yanks (joining in the jinx!)

  20. vanilla says:

"kick off?" Have never seen that at a MLB game!

    Have fun.

  21. Jim says:

21 comments and no Royals Fans?? There are not many around these days. I grew up driving tractors and listening to the Royals on the radio. I am pretty old so I remember some very good years. I loved George Brett, Frank White and an awesome group of pitchers that stood up to the evil empire in the 70's and 80's. But for the last 15 years I am a "non-factor" in baseball talk BUT every April I hope….. and hope… Love the baseball season!

  22. Evan says:

Favorite Teams: Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, and Colorado Rockies. My wife is a Braves fan … so I cheer them on, as well.

World Series: Boston def Atlanta in 6! I just want to see how intense Jacinda would be in that series!

  23. Evan says:

btw, we went to the game yesterday afternoon after spending the morning grilling in the parking lot! Too much fun polished off with an incredible win!

  24. Tiffany says:

All these comments and only 1 person is picking the Dodgers. Hopefully we can continue the success from last season and perhaps even beat the Phillies this year.
