HAPPY 5th OF JULY ???

I had planned on telling everyone, Happy 4th of July today, but I found out we’re not celebrating the 4th in Childress this year. Word has it around town that we couldn’t get anyone to light the fireworks for us tonight, so no firework show for us.

The good news is we have someone lined up to light them tomorrow night. So this year we’ll celebrate our Independence Day on the 5th of July.

Only in small town America! (Smile)

(By the way, I’d be more than happy to go light those fireworks if they’d let me. Sounds like fun stuff to me.)

Happy 4th and may God bless our troops who are protecting our freedom.

Hey, some of the towns in our area started 4th of July celebrations last weekend – JUNE 28th – complete with fireworks! No kidding.

I actually enjoy spreading out the celebrations. In fact, we have one tonight and another get together tomorrow night.

    Be safe and have fun!

You gotta love “small town America”, the fireworks may not be the biggest, but it’s always a special night. I wanted to comment on one of your older posts…”Trey, Tell me God won’t take my baby.” That post was hard to read, and it’s been a hard work here in Paducah because the Church of Christ preacher’s wife, Francis Alessandro passed away this past Monday morning after a finding out she had ovarian cancer only a week before. I found myself dwelling on the question of “fairness” this last week; why someone with such a sweet spirit who has lived her life and raised her family for God, should be taken so suddenly and tragically. It did make me feel guilty to entertain thoughts like that…of “questioning” God, so as I was reading through some of your blogs tonight, I was comforted by your words. Thanks for ministering to so many through the words of your blog. I truly appreciate your work.

Aidan told us tonight ‘you could just light a cracker on fire and you would have fire crackers!’ Kids!

At least you have fireworks in your small town…small town??? that’s funny! In my town, our fireworks consist of when the neighbor goes out on his front porch cause his wife won’t let him smoke and we can see his lighter strike up and watch the amber glow of his cigarette. I guess that is life in minuscule town.

In Kearny, NJ we have our fireworks display on the 4th every year, unless we are rained out. Then it is postponed. Some other cities in the area have theirs before the 4th.

I grew up on a farm just north of a small town. Town’s populations? 200. It was the town in the area that had THE Independence Day celebration every year, complete with fireworks at around 10pm. The fireworks were shot up ONE AT A TIME.

Now when I see the impressive displays of multiple fireworks going off, I appreciate the display, but miss the shows of my youth. One at a time.
