This morning as I was looking at my blog I noticed I’ve got multiple articles or “posts” started, but I’ve never finished them. They have been sitting around for a long time waiting to be finished. Here are a few of their titles ….
- What happens after you die?
- I have a dream (about the church).
- Things that frustrate me.
- How to be a better blogger.
- What is a “real” man?
- What is modest dress?
- Questions about men that women want answered.
- Church words that aren’t biblical words.
What I realize is that I’m a great starter. I can start anything and everything. If you need something started, I am your man. The problem is I’m not a good finisher. I can’t seem to finish all the things I start. I’ve started numerous books that I never finished. I’ve started sermons that I’ve never finished. I can’t begin to tell you how many other projects I’ve started that I haven’t finished.
I’m glad God’s not like that. God is not only a good starter, but He’s an even better finisher. Do you remember the old children’s song, “He’s still working on me, to make me all I have to be…?” I’m extremely thankful that He’s not finished with me. I’m so far from where I want to be spiritually, and I’ve got so many flaws in my life that need serious work. I struggle spiritually, and I need God’s help. As I cry out to the Lord, “Father, I’m a spiritual failure and I look nothing like your Son,” I’m reminded He gently answers, “Trey, don’t give up. I’m not finished with you yet.”
I am a Christian husband and father, who moonlights as the minister for the church of Christ in Childress, Texas. My wife Lea and I have been married for 22 years. We are doing our best to raise our 4 boys, who are all growing up way too fast.

Thanks for the reminder. I’m sure I will be singing that song all day now.
I used to feel bad about things like that. But now, even if I suspect I may not finish something I was writing, I still start it.
I often have thoughts for posts or stories, or even books come to me. I have no intention of writing the whole thing, but the thought is good and I don’t want to loose it. So I jot it down. I have three books that float around in my head now. I have not officially strted any of them. But as I read something or see something on TV, a blog, the Bible, the news, I think may fit somewhere, I write it down. This way, I will at least have it later.
Those blog posts that are unfinished will be done when the time is right. It is funny how often I read something that was just posted right when I need to hear it. That has been happening a lot more lately.
Just because we don’t finish something immediately, doesn’t mean there won’t be a proper time when we are called to complete it.

I heard a good lesson on modest dress Sunday. The preacher stressed how important it is for men to explain to his wife and daughters how a man’s mind works… even though it’s a bit uncomfortable.
We girls really just don’t get it sometimes.

I have been catching up on your blog and you still inspire me with all of your posts. I cried when I read about Taylor. I am a little sappy lately, but I still can’t believe that he is 18. Isn’t it great how much better kids make our lives?
Now for the important question…are you having good vs. bad struggles? I notice that you keep switching from a white screen to a black screen and then white..etc.?.

Like you, I’ve got several unfinished starts to blog posts that will likely never see completion. For me, I’ll get an idea, see or hear something that triggers a blog post and so I start it and leave it for finishing later but later never comes because I’ve moved on to something else or the passion for that post has left me. I’ve got them saved in Word though so who knows, I might finish some later…oops there is that “later” word again!
Monica … My problem is I hate “same-ole-same-ole” stuff. I need change. I can’t keep my blog looking the same very long because I get tired of looking the same way. So for the next few weeks … we’ll be white around here.
