We don’t get (or make) a lot of time for television, but thanks to a DVR we can record shows we’ve missed and watch them at a later time. We often try to use television for some family time. Not all our family time takes place in front of the television, but it is nice to gather the whole family around for a show. Just for fun, here are 5 of our favorite shows we love to watch in the Morgan house.

  • SPORTS – Hands down favorites are an NFL game, MLB game or NASCAR race. Those are the “big 3″ sports in the Morgan house, and we just can’t seem to get enough.
  • SURVIVOR – Lea and I have watched it since season two, and it has now become a family event. We don’t watch Survivor until everyone in the family is there together. Everyone picks their favorite, and the game is on. Phrases like “First things first,” “The tribe has spoken,” and “We need a strong alliance” never get old to us.
  • AMERICAN IDOL – This is another show for which my family gathers around the television and has a little family time. We’re actually newbies when it comes to Idol. We only started watching two seasons ago when our favorite, Chris Daughtry, was on the show. This year may be the best Idol yet from the stand point of people I like. I’m pulling for Jason Castro, rocker David Cook and Brooke White.
  • THE AMAZING RACE – What is it about watching contestants going all over the world in a giant race that I find entertaining? I don’t know, but I like it. Just like Survivor, it’s just as much fun to root against someone you don’t like as it is to root for the people you do like. This is a don’t miss show.
  • SPONGEBOB SQUARE PANTS – Spongebob never gets old. I have watched way too many terrible shows with my kids and afterwards I ask them, “Why do you like this show?” The answer is usually, “We just do.” But when we watch Spongebob Squarepants, no questions are necessary. Even if it’s an episode we’ve seen many times before, it never fails to entertain me.
RUNNERS UP: Lost (I like it but stay “Lost” most of the time), CSI (The Original), AFV (America’s Funniest Home Videos) Is there anything funnier than watching people hurt themselves on video? Survivorman and Man -vs- Wild (Now those are some manly shows).

So, I’d love to know, what shows are on your Top 5 list?

  1. Chris Gallagher says:

(not sure if the first one went through, so here is the same)

OK, I will give you Nascar and Spongebob, but the others I am not to sure about.

The Gallagher household is varied, but the three children take over teh TV and this s how it looks:

    1. Spongebob

    2. Dirty Jobs (yes, it is Alexis and Emma’s 2nd favorite show)

    3. Hannah Montana

    4. Deadliest Catch (when it is on)

    5. Everybody Loves Raymond

Nascar and football fit in there, but only when I get to hide the remote.

  2. Evan Williams says:

    Scrubs definatly

  3. Amy says:

We are huge idol fans, also!! We’ll have to have a big party for the finale!! Hey, any excuse to have a get together!!

  4. Jeff Slater says:

Sports and SpongeBob would definitely be on our list. We watch Idol on occasion, but have not been into it like we were the Chris Daughtry season.

My son and I really like Mythbusters. My wife and kids really like Monk. I enjoy Seinfeld reruns, and we all like the “Flip That House” show featuring the company from Charleston, South Carolina.

  5. Greg says:

I think the only show my wife and I watch together is American Idol. I thoroughly enjoyed “The Next Great American Band” and watch a ton of the old re-runs (Andy Griffith, M*A*S*H, Home Improvement). Wife likes Bones and House as well, but I seldom sit down to watch those.

We subscribed to Netflix and usually make one evening a night our “movie night” in the loft where we have the projection system with amazing surround sound.

  6. Gilbert Kerrigan says:

    Cubs Baseball!!!!
    Law and Order SVU
    Biggest Loser
    Criminal Minds
    30 Rock

  7. Brie says:

If it weren’t for DVR, we’d never see anything. Hello, youth ministry! :)

Answering for both of us, and in no particular order order:

    The Unit
    House Hunters
Pushing Daisies (Dead Like Me when it was still on, but it was cancelled for Fat Actress [argh!], so I don’t count it.)

  8. blogprophet says:

    SPORTS: football, college B-Ball, baseball

    Biggest Loser

I would rather watch Raymond, Seinfeld, and Frasier re-runs that most anything that is on TV now.

  9. Stephanie says:

    Biggest Loser
    America’s Funniest Videos
    Brother and Sisters
    Flip that House
    Regis and Kelly

  10. Monalea says:

Our family gathers round to watch the NASA channel. It is amazing how those people can move so slowly. We actually spent one day as a family moving in slow motion to see if it was real or they just made it up. It’s real! We learned some great things about communication, missed phone calls and lockjaw.

What can I say? It’s a gift and a curse.

  11. Doug Young says:

The Discovery Channel has introduced a number of shows that are ranking very high on my list.

    1. Mythbusters
    2. The Deadliest Catch
    3. Good Eats with Alton Brown (Food Network)
    4. Fight Quest
    5. Hannah Montana (our family has seen every episode, so it seems, more than once!)

  12. TREY MORGAN says:

I’m enjoying checking out what everyone watches. There are a few that you’ve mentioned that I’ve thought, “Oh, yea, I like that too.” Then there are a few I’ve never heard of that I will have to set the DVR to record.

Also on runner’s up would be Survivorman and Man vs Wild. Oh yea, those are man shows.

AND, I must confess Spongebob is not on Lea’s top 100 list. But anything on HGTV is :)

What, no Desperate Housewife’s watchers? Or are you just afraid to confess? LOL

  13. Haley says:

    Lets see:

    ER is a must
    Biggest Loser
    The Office
    Pushing Daisies
    Grey’s Anatomy
Survivor (though I’m not super hard core on that one)
My favorite cartoon these days is Charlie and Lola

I don’t get to watch most of these shows when they are actually one, and on a student’s budget there’s no DVR to be had . . . but I do have super fast internet so I watch most of my “tv” online.

  14. Falantedios says:

UGH I HATE SpongeBob and the original CSI. Grissom is just a creep.

    Top 5 in my house?

    1. Criminal Minds
    2. Heroes
    3. CSI: NY
    4. Masterpiece Theatre
    5. SportsCenter – UK Basketball (tie)

  15. preacherman says:

    The boys love Spongebob!
I just enjoy watchings Stars and HBO…I am a movie lover. Old one and new ones. The shows that they have on now really don’t interest me. I do like deal or no deal. It is crazy to see how greedy America has become.
Trey, I hope you have a blessed week brother. It is going to be in the triple digits down here possiblity today and definately tomorrow. So, just trying to keep cool.

  16. jel says:

well with just 4 channels , not much,

    word world
    the Red Green show
    saturday morning cartoons on (NBC)

  17. That Girl says:

    Pretty much anything on ESPN
    Jon & Kate + *

  18. James says:

Kathy and I are clear. Spongebob does not play nicely with others. We have trained Josh well. He tells his friends ‘I can’t watch that, they don’t play nice’. I’m so proud of him.

Family time is mostly movies. We do sometimes watch re-runs of Home Improvement.

T.V. is mostly parent time. Missing Without a Trace, Cold Case, Numbers and sometimes that psychic show. Used to watch CSI and Amazing Race but both got wierd and we quit. Not enough time for much of the garbage. We (I was able to promote this for a time)were one of those families who didn’t watch t.v. Just select movies.

Anything with sports, music or history is high on the list as well.

  19. blogprophet says:

no TV week is coming up soon and I think i will encourage/challenge our congregation to fast one week–no TV.

I would watch lost on the internet the following week.

  20. Zach Detwiler says:

#1 – hand down.. Extreme Home Makeover…. #2 – Wheel of Fortune.. #3 Deal or No Deal!! Sponge bob is number 100 … in my top… come on dude.. seriously .. sponge bob? .. haha..

  21. blogprophet says:

    you know what’s cool?
watch a Cosby rerun and two things stick out.

the humor is timeless and high quality

the show is clean and calm

  22. Patrick A. Mead says:

Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, LOST, House, NFL and college football. Some Fox News and, if nobody’s watching, Simpsons.

  23. Brandon says:

I am into Boxing, Tv Land, Weather Channel, CNN and well not much else.

p.s Trey I sent ya my new email.

  24. Brandon says:

I hope to get more people from “my” former “Church” to come and visit “Us” as “My” “Church” family would double!

  25. preacherman says:

    Santanta & Fox Soccer Channel.
I love to watch the EPL!

  26. Super Andre says:

I would have to say my favorite shows are:
    1. Heroes
    2. The Office
    3. 24
    4. Friends
    5. Smallville

  27. Confessing Lunatic says:

    1. Chuck – does NO ONE watch this show? It’s great!
    2. Pshyc
    3. Monk
    4. Amazing Race
    5. American Idol

  28. Mots says:

    1. Grey’s Anatomy
    2. One Tree Hill
    3. NASCAR (I make my daddy proud!)
    4. Ugly Betty
    5. Private Practice

With the exception of #3 I just realized “WOW I’m such a girl!”
I’ll admit though Desperate Housewives is a favorite of mine too…I’m pretty sad that it hasn’t been on. I also love anything that will make me laugh the entire show like Two and a Half Men. Of course since I seem to always be at work or at school it usually means recording them all on my DVR…I mean VCR

  29. Toni Burns says:

Living out of the country we have limited American Channels and shows. But I still have a pretty good list
    #1 – hands down is 24
    2 – Wheel of Fortune
3 – Any sports (right now Josiah is watching the Dallas vs Packers 1967 superbowl rerun!) we mainly like soccer and Baseball (we have to buy a special baseball channel so that we can get the games – makes a good fathers day gift)
4 – we also get Nick Gas which reruns all the nickolodian gameshows I use to watch 20 years ago – Josiah loves Legends of the hidden temple and Double dare – Cory and I love watching it with him and seeing the great prizes – 50 gift certificates, a walkman, a VHS player etc
