I think God’s got a huge sense of humor; why else would he put polar opposites in families. Our four boys are so different from one another. We have a couple who are strong-willed. One that is laid-back. Some who are VERY outgoing and another that will do anything to avoid the spotlight. Every person in the Morgan family is different. We all have our likes and dislikes.
Interestingly enough, as families should, we try to value the uniqueness of each person. Not everyone can get their way, eat where they want or do what they want, but being different is what makes a family a family. Here are some examples of the Morgan family and their differences …
FOOD:
- At home, 9 times out of 10, whatever Lea fixes one kid will say, “Sweet, Mom, I love this,” while another kid will say, “Oh man, this again?” We’re all just different.
- When we eat out, I have one child that always says, “Why don’t we ever get to eat at McDonalds?” (We’re hoping as he matures he’ll grow out of his fascination for that place!) I have one son that could care less where, as long as I’m buying. I have another son that wants to eat some place that will have great quantities of food, like a buffet. Lea’s looking for a place with “atmosphere” and I’m wanting cheap. BTW: I’m sure if I looked up the greek word for “atmosphere” it would mean “expensive.” :)
VACATIONS:
- Ask anyone in our family, “Where do you want to go on vacation this year?” and you’ll get a different answer from everyone.
- One son of mine would be content fishing from sun up until sundown. Another would spend an entire week at Six Flags, despite it taking only one ride to make me nauseous. We all have different likes and dislikes and that’s just the way God made us.
FAMILY TIME:
- I love sitting down and watching a movie with the entire family, BUT I have a couple of kids that don’t think that sounds like much fun.
- I have two sons that would say, “Let’s play Monopoly!” Folks, just so you’ll know … I hate Monopoly with the white hot intensity of 1000 suns. I’d rather repeatedly poke myself in the eye with a stick than have to sit through a 4 hour board game. Ugh!
- Some of us love to play cards, but I have one son that would rather do anything but.
TELEVISION:
- Most of our family would be content to sit down and watch a baseball game together, but not all. Some would choose a cartoon, I love SportsCenter and Lea could watch HGTV all day. We’re all different, that’s how God made us.
Yes, God must have a sense of humor, and He must love variety … why else would He build families with polar opposites in them. Healthy families don’t have black-sheep, instead they learn to value every person for the way God made them.

Some of my family is almost anal about being on time, some of us think if it starts at 7:00 you arrive at 6:59…
Some of my family is neat and organized…some of us like to toss our shoes wherever they land.
Some like to dress neat and never wear holey jeans, some of us think holes add character to an outfit.
Some of us would watch reruns of the Alabama game three times during the week. The other one would rather watch Orange County Choppers or How It’s Made….(why did I have to be the sports fanatic)
I won’t even start about food….

I laughed so hard believe me my 3 daughters are no different Crystal 24 is very outgoing, Ashley 18 is strong willed, Brianna 13 friday yes another teenager cant stand my baby no baby anymore she is laid back go with the flow but it never fails dont care if girls getting ready for church, or school Ashley is always the last one out the door it seems we are always waiting on her when we are trying to go somewhere. .
Debbie … sounds like your family is just like ours. Lots of very different kids. Maybe someday I can meet them.
I also wanted to say dont know about boys but, hate taking Ashley shopping it can sometimes take her 2 to 3 hrs just to find what she is looking for is a very painful experience trust me she trys outfits on, pick something up decides she likes it then changes her mind so whole process starts over and Brianna could care less long as it looks good and she still likes me buying her clothes without her presence. . .
I have always described my kids like this:
If there was a million dollars at the bottom of a ravine, Katie would talked somebody into going and getting it for her, Cam would run and jump off the cliff and deal with broken bones etc. later, Clay would look the situation over and find the easiest and safest way to the bottom and then go after it, Conner would run to the edge look at it and think “I’ll get it in a minute” then become distracted and forget that it was even there. They have their similarities too, whenever there is trouble or a problem they all four “circle the wagons” and are very protective and supportive of each other. I just think it would be dull around my house if they were all alike. As frustating as it can be sometimes I kinda their uniqueness. (Is that a word?) There is never a dull moment!

I think the thing with girls is they have alot more drama trust me and think sometimes where does Ashley come up with these crazy ideas I tell her ok you got to much free time on your hands she is always plotting thinks she can take the easy way out so isnt it wonderful with such inquiring minds LOL! and as of today Brianna turned 13 another TEENAGER! hey brother pray for me what can I say never a dull moment at my house . . . .
