Dump Fund Heroes

I’d like you to meet some of my heroes from Quanah High School in Quanah, Texas. They are some of the seniors from Pam Ward’s English class.

The heard about Dump Day, watched the gut-wrenching video from the dump and were moved to the point of wanting to get involved. They challenged the Junior’s English class to see which could raise the most for the dump fund. Besides raising money, many of them fasted as well.

I was touched yesterday when these teens drove over to Childress and presented me with $830 for the dump fund. All of it raised by two high school English classes.

Thanks guys for being an inspiration to everyone…

Teacher: Pam Ward, Gabi Meza, Ray Bermudez, Valari Tyson, Brandy Simpson, Virginia Rodriguez, me (I’m sure you probably mistook me for a HS kid).

I asked these young people to stop by my blog today to see their picture … I think it’d be cool if we left them some comments and told them, “Well done!”

You guys are AWESOME! Because of the money you gave, the people at the dump will go to bed with food in their bellies. Children will be able to sleep without the hunger pangs that likely plague them the rest of the week. Your contribution and compassion mean the world to these souls.

High School Students and teens get a bad rep because the press usually reports on the misguided and violent. These young people are the ones to be reported about. They are the reality of American Youth. Keep on keepin' on. Way to go Gabi, Ray, Valari, Brandy, Virginia and all your classmates.

Scott … you are right on with that comment. All we hear are people talking about the things kids do that are wrong. There are plenty of kids out there making a difference. Well said.

    • Pam Ward says:

Yes, Scott you are right. There ARE so many young people who are willing to step outside of their comfort zones to make a sacrifice of personal food, money, and time for others that are in need. I have been honored this year to have 22 amazing seniors and 23 awesome juniors. They worked hard to gather donations for the dump people. Not only did they learn valuable life lessons, but they have provided motivation and inspiration for me as well. I am disappointed that Trey was unable to meet each one that participated. This is a very busy time of year for juniors and seniors, as you well know. So thank you all for your words of encouragement. I give God the glory because His powerful hand was directing this project. QHS students found favor with God and with man as they reached out to those in need. :)

  22. Phoenix says:

Many people watch, listen, discuss, and learn about the plight of the people who live at the dump. Not everyone does something productive with the knowledge. Way to go, students of Quanah! It’s great to see young men and women willing to focus on helping others in need and take action!
