UPDATE at 6:07 p.m. CST – Bread For A Hungry World has offered to match up to $25,000 is we reach $25,000. We’re currently at $19,000. Let’s keep giving!!!
Welcome to Dump Day 2010
I’m excited about today, because today we’re going to put others needs above our own. Today we’re going to do one of the simplest, most Jesus-like things we could EVER do … we’re going to feed the hungry.
While the average American family spends about $341.98 on food per week. Here’s what a week’s worth of food looks like.
Sadly, the people who live at the Teguciglapa dump eat what they can find in the trash. To learn more about the Tegucigalpa, Honduras dump, click here. Warning Graphic video.
Thankfully, Marc & Terri Tendall and other missionaries are willing to help feed the Dump People. We just need to raise the funds. That’s what today is all about. The funds we raise will go directly to help those in the dump. Your funds provide food for the hungry and milk for many of the babies. Please feel free to donate any amount.
Today Marc & Terri Tindall, Rickey Husband, my son Parker and others will be at the dump to pass out food. To celebrate this day “Dump Day,” Marc has added a piece of fried chicken to their food today. Generally the only fried chicken the dump people get to eat, is some that has already been eaten off of and discarded in the trash. So, while they get to eat today, we’ll raise some money so they can continue to be fed. And for those of us fasting today, I think it’s great that the dump people will eat better than we will.

Thanks for meeting this need…
Trey, What a day it has been. Wanted to feed fried chicken because Sunday is mothers day and there are lots of mom's in the dump. Turned out to be a not so great idea – lots of things out of the norm creat a level of excitement and people feel like they will be left out. A group of young men started grabbing boxes and before we knew it, all the chicken was gone… lots of people ate chicken – just not quite the way we planned. Calm returned and we served 300 bowls of rice and beans with tortillas. Went on to take my little crew of mommies to the store for the weekly baby formula buy. Because of today, we can really start drawing up plans for something where my dump friends have many more of their needs met – especially in the area of taking care of their kids and their health. Stay tuned on this – it will not be an over-night ministry project – I do believe that it will be one that will change lives and give us more opportunity to introduce people to Jesus.
$250 from John, Amber, Avery, Emma and Major. Nice work today.
Trey,
Put me down for $100 check in the mail.

Today the work in Honduras has been in my thoughts and prayers. God continually tugged on my heart today to not only pray but give. May God richly bless this work in the days ahead.

Did the $25,000.00 have to be raised all yesterday for Bread for the Hungry to match it? Can't wait to hear if $25.000.00 was accomplished.
Update coming in about 10 minutes…
We'd like to give $1000. Thanks to everyone who gave.

$100 from the Holcomb's via paypal. Almost there!
For those still checking this link… We hit 25k about 11 p.m. and Bread for a Hungry World matched our 25k giving us 50k for the Dump People. Things are in the works now for more than just food, but also rescuing people, especially children, out of the dump. Plans are rolling now to begin the process of both feeding and breaking the cycle of people living at the dump.
I thank God for each of you who gave…
The college students of Christ in Action, the campus ministry at Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas, have been saving their spare change for the last couple weeks. We don't have an official count on what has been collected but we have a coffee can full on money. I'll give you an official total soon.
Danielle … AWESOME!!!
dear,
Trey do you know what the tax is for?
your friend
Logan
What do you mean, Logan. I don’t understand your question.
On kid biz it said they use the tax for hondores.
Logan … I still can’t find where anyone has talked about taxes for kid biz. I do know that the donations made to the Church or Christ and Torch were tax deductible.
Trey how many people did it feed?
That will feed everyone for a while and help to get them out of the dump.
