Our teens are going through the book of Matthew and I asked them if they thought Jesus was hypocritical. We looked at His teachings and then searched to see if He practiced what he preached. I challenged them with a few things... 1. If you think the church is full of hypocrites, then why don't YOU step up and show us how to be perfect? (I then apologized for my own imperfections and made the point that nobody is perfect.) 2. PLEASE don't judge Jesus by His followers...judge Jesus by Jesus! Hi. The church is a community of believers that sharpen each other and want to see God's best come about in everyone. We all have had difficult things happen to us and we're each in our own stage of working through that with the help of Holy Spirit. You never have to feel like you have it all together to come and hang out with Christians. Come as you are but if you open your heart to God, you can expect to leave differently." Why would anyone want to follow Jesus when it seems to mean nothing and change nothing. How can you tell someone that Jesus has a better way to relationships when so many people who say they follow him have terrible relationships? How can you say Jesus offers lasting joy when so many who say they follow him use all of the same crutches to have what they call a good time? Praying for this young lady and you as you work with her to see Jesus. Fortunately we know Jesus dealt with religious fakes as well who wanted to look good but were disgusting inside.
