CHOOSING NOT TO SAVE ALL MY BULLETS

My friend John asked me recently, “Why do you think people are willing to give their money when you ask?” I told him, “First, I try to only ask when there is a serious need. Second, I try not to use up my bullets and ask for money constantly. Occasionally gets more response than constantly.”

I’ve tried hard on my blog, to not use up my bullets, asking for things all the time. My main goal is the “Dump Fund” that I push hard for every May 5th. That will be a big push for me again this year, because by May 2010 the money we raised for the “Dump Fund” will be running out.

With all that said, I just want to tell you about something that came up yesterday. Marc Tindall, my missionary friend in Honduras, sent this message about an amazing opportunity to buy food…

“Got a call yesterday and was told – ‘We have 425,000 rice & veggie meals available, do you want them?’ Duh! Of course we want them. They are shipping December 30 and now we need to pray for our God to show how to pay for the shipment. An amazing value – $100,000 in food value for a shipping cost of something like $4500. Food for 300 kids/ 5x a week / 3+ years.”

He purchased 425,000 meals on faith. Enough meals to feed 300 hungry kids (just like the picture above), five days a week, for three years. $100,000 worth of food for roughly $4500.

I will tell you that I immediately reposted his note on facebook and to this point we’ve already raised $3000 of that $4500. Only $1500 to go. So, I ask humbly, scared to death that I may be using up my bullets, would you help a little on this amazing miracle of food? You can even skip my Christmas present this year and donate the $10 or whatever to feed the hungry kids (smile). If we can do this, it’ll be worth not saving all my bullets.

You can do so by sending a check:

Feed a hungry kid for three years … can’t think if a better way to spend a little Christmas money. Thanks again …

Just had $500 in anonymous donations come in through checks and PayPal.

    We're now down to $1000

Thanks Kat – You are awesome!

I had to donate! If I didn't, I wouldn't be living the inspiration the Lord just gave me. Reminds me of that story in Matthew somewhere about "If you have done it unto the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto Me." Or something like that! :) Take care and God bless your efforts!

Just finished writing a check. My husband and I were recently discussing ways to give to others this season, and this seemed like a good time to do that.

  6. TREY MORGAN says:

Thank you Marty & Merry. :)

There has been another $100 come by donations of $10, $15 and $25. THANK YOU to all those that have donated.

  7. merry says:

We'll put a check for $400 in the mail tomorrow. We had earmarked it for a good cause and asked God this morning to show me where to send it. Thank you for your ministry

So glad you've reached the goal! What an awesome blog / FB community. Having just sent a few hundred dollars to help feed children in Honduras and Mexico, we are sort of tapped out, but I was going to scrounge if you still needed more.

  13. Katherine says:

Rock on!! No, Trey-YOU are awesome!! :)

What a mighty God we serve!!

  14. TREY MORGAN says:

Stooge/Greg – Your donation to Casa was wonderful. Thank you. I actually think you timed it perfectly … stopping by just as we hit our total… HA! :)

Kat – God is SO good.

I'd also like to add … if you didn't give but still would like to, that's great. This amount of food is just a small drop in the bucket of what is needed. Thanks.

Trey & family of givers – I stand in AWE of what has just happened. Our God is Awesome and we need to be Awed at what he does. Every time we have had an opportunity to feed people, our faithful God shows us his will. His fingerprints are everywhere. Please tell everybody that they are welcome to come here and help us feed the children. When you do, you will be looking into the eyes of Jesus. He said "whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you have done for me". Feeding the children of Honduras – or anywhere for that matter is feeding Jesus!

  16. Kim says:

trey, I know we will have at least $100. Everyone has been very generous with the items we are bringing next week and I have additional cash that we will put towards this effort. Pat and Kim

  17. Kim says:

I should pay attention to all the comments. It is amazing how quickly people respond. What a blessing!! I know you have reached the goal. But we will still have some $ for other things that may be needed. Kim

  18. merry says:

Checking back in today to see if the goal had been met (and it has! yay!), I did the math on how much the meals cost.

$100,000 worth of food + $4,500 shipping for 425,000 meals is less than a quarter per child per day. It is absolutely amazing to me how much can be done with relatively little American money, but oftentimes we're so reluctant to give any of it away.

DH and I are trying to think about money in these terms more these days to see how much we can do for other people instead of what we can do for ourselves. We just moved into a different home, and it's very hard not to want new things when we're trying to make everything look just right. Sigh. It certainly is a challenge.

  19. Janice Garrison says:

Trey, I'm late getting here and wish I wasn't. I can donate if you still have a need. If not I apologize and I will help next time.

God bless you and the work being done.
