A Few Honduras Pictures & Stories

A house (if that’s what you call it) just outside the dump. We visited with an older woman and a young girl who lived here. In contrast to the filth, flies and smell were their beautiful smiles. During the Jesus Banquet, people had the opportunity to come over and pick out some new (nearly new) [...]

Honduras is Something you have to Experience First Hand

My friend Randy I do my best to describe what a trip to Honduras is like. I share on this blog stories and pictures of things that have touched us in ways so deep that we’ll forever be affected by then. As hard as I try, I’ll NEVER be able to fully explain what a [...]

Building Houses in Honduras

It’s cold this morning. It’s been cold every morning and evening this week. We were totally unprepared for this kind of weather. I’m wearing my last pair of clean shorts, yes shorts. That’s because my only pair of jeans, that would be a little warmer, are filthy. So I sit here with 3 shirts on [...]

Jesus Banquet

Yesterday was an amazing day. I’m sorry I didn’t post this last night, we were all flat worn out. We were on the road yesterday by 5:30 am and picking up trash around feeding area by 6:30. It was a full day of serving people … hungry, dirty people. Marc Tindall guessed that we served [...]

Pre-Jesus Banquet

We arrived this morning at 6 am to pick up trash around the area we would be serving the Jesus Banquet today. No one needs to have a banquet for dump people in an area that’s trashy. The tables are ready, people are arriving, but the food has yet to get here (typical Honduras). Picture [...]

The Language of Love

I don’t speak Spanish and Hondurans don’t speak English, but we do speak the language of love. Today we spoke love. Today we spoke touch. Today we spoke the language of smiles. We spent time this afternoon in a little village just north of the capital city playing with sweet Honduran kids. We played soccer, [...]

Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit …

I’ve mentioned before that part of my daily reading schedule is the book of Proverbs. I read the chapter of Proverbs that corresponds with the date. For example, today is October 25th, so I read Proverbs chapter 25. That allows me to read through the book of Proverbs every month. I found it interesting that [...]

Beans for Hungry Honduran Kids

Little red beans are the main staple source of protein in Honduras. Heavy rains this summer have destroyed the bean crops and caused a food crisis in Honduras. This really hurts the poor because the shortage has caused the price to go 5 times higher than they were last year, and there are some places [...]

A Few Final Thoughts on our Honduras Trip

When I started trying to talk people into going with me this summer, I never dreamed that I’d take a group of 46. I wanted others to get the chance to experience the excitement, the emotion and the fullfillment that comes from short term missions and putting others before self. I had fallen in love [...]

Let’s Have a Little Fun

I’ll be honest, we found plenty of time to laugh and have some fun on our trip. Here are a few random pictures that really stood out to me… Some of the clothes we were donating and giving away, found their way into our fashion show. Paul’s suitcase was lost the first three days, so [...]

Building Houses and Manicures at the Dump

There is nothing more thrilling than building houses in Honduras. They are what we call, “instant gratification.” That’s because in one afternoon you go from an empty dirt lot to having a home for someone. The family who’s getting the home comes and watches and everyone is happy, smiling and thankful. My friend John Henderson [...]

Honduras Medical Clinics

We had two different days of medical/dental clinics while in Honduras. Medical care is a basic need that often goes unmet in Honduras. We were blessed last week to take with us 3 doctors, a dentist and 2 nurses. We brought suitcases full of antibiotics, anti-parasite meds, ointments, vitamins, and other basic medications. There were [...]

In fact, we generally think of ourselves as fairly independent and capable. Even [...]
