2. I can’t say that we have a sit down and take notes kind of Bible study – more like a running discussion of “God things”. She is an innately curious person – questions – questions – questions. She also has very acute reasoning skills (which is great for Bible discussions but tough, when I am trying to explain why I didn’t get the “honey-do” done . Seeing God at work in current events – situations in the lives of friends and family – reflections of past crises have given us hours of faith developing exercise.

3. It may be just a matter of semantics – but while I am accountable to God – He does not keep an accounting of my flaws or failures. So … I look at the fellowship of those who “exhort”, “encourage”, and “build me up” – not so much as an “accountability” group. Of course, “accountability” is achieved, when my brothers are “building me up”; but rather than them “checking on me”, they are preparing me – training me – even “provoking me” to love and good works. No disagreement here – just an old man’s perspective … an old man with a limp.

Amy – Thanks for stopping by. I always love your blog. You obviously love being a momma and are good at it. Lea and I have been doing a “husband & wife” devotional book together. There are a lot of these. We’ve also read though books together. We’ll pick books that we’ll both agree on and then take turns reading. She’ll keep it a couple of days and read two or three chapters and then I’ll keep it a couple of days and catch up. Then we’ll sit down and talk about it. We’re currently doing “Red Hot Monogamy.” We’ve laughed and had fun reading the book together. It will definitely spice things up. We’ve also done His Need Her Needs together – that one is EXCELLENT. I love when we take time to pray together… I’m not sure I ever feel more intimate with her than when I hear her praying and hear the things on her heart.

Trey: Do accountability groups work? If I’m not able to be accountable to God, why would I be accountable to another person?

1. 3 days after our last son was born, my husband got us Chinese take-out. My fortune was “Change is happening in your life, so go with the flow!” I still have it.

2. Right after we were first married, my husband & I read the Bible together every day. I would love for us to get back to that.

3. A group of young women from my church regularly get together for Bible study & discuss things to keep each other accountable. I also have a couple email friends that I consider accountability partners. Nothing real official, though.
