The packing seems endless. I'm not doing this again until all of the kids have moved out and have taken their stuff with them.

I just caught up reading your blog - sorry I haven't been around to participate because you have had some great thoughts. Good job Pops!

DIL

1. The worst fortune cookie message - "Buy a new pair of shoes, and you will feel better." I am serious; my bonus daughter quotes it everytime we eat Chinese. I couldn't even give it to my wife, because she hates Chinese.

2. I can't say that we have a sit down and take notes kind of Bible study - more like a running discussion of "God things". She is an innately curious person - questions - questions - questions. She also has very acute reasoning skills (which is great for Bible discussions but tough, when I am trying to explain why I didn't get the "honey-do" done :). Seeing God at work in current events - situations in the lives of friends and family - reflections of past crises have given us hours of faith developing exercise.

3. It may be just a matter of semantics - but while I am accountable to God - He does not keep an accounting of my flaws or failures. So ... I look at the fellowship of those who "exhort", "encourage", and "build me up" - not so much as an "accountability" group. Of course, "accountability" is achieved, when my brothers are "building me up"; but rather than them "checking on me", they are preparing me - training me - even "provoking me" to love and good works. No disagreement here - just an old man's perspective ... an old man with a limp.

p.s. God bless Cooper - and all those He will use in his life to bring him into glory on that last great day.

David - I think accountability is VERY important. I am accountable to God, but I have some friends that help me be accountable in things and areas where I struggle. Just for an example, recently after three or four hard days I was tired my compassion level was really way down. I wasn't feeling or acting very Christ-like. I asked Lea to pray for me about it and keep me accountable on this. Two or three times over the next day she asked, "How's your compassion?" With her holding me accountable ... I had to work on my attitude. I hope that makes sense.

Amy - Thanks for stopping by. I always love your blog. You obviously love being a momma and are good at it. Lea and I have been doing a "husband & wife" devotional book together. There are a lot of these. We've also read though books together. We'll pick books that we'll both agree on and then take turns reading. She'll keep it a couple of days and read two or three chapters and then I'll keep it a couple of days and catch up. Then we'll sit down and talk about it. We're currently doing "Red Hot Monogamy." We've laughed and had fun reading the book together. It will definitely spice things up. We've also done His Need Her Needs together - that one is EXCELLENT. I love when we take time to pray together... I'm not sure I ever feel more intimate with her than when I hear her praying and hear the things on her heart.

Jeanne - You and Lea are just a like :)

I am with Lea. No Chinese food in my corner of heaven. Let it be good Mexican or Italian food. But maybe Mexican food would be too hot for heavenly food. ;-)

Conner is so cute - he has to take after Lea. Just kidding! Happy belated birthday, big boy!

Trey, great post, as always. Have you ever heard Craig Horton's rule on fortune cookies? If so, I'm sorry. If not, you're a lucky man!! Coop is such a handsome young man! Happy Birthday to him. Jason and I have started a bible study with the kids at night and it has been so much fun! After the kids study I have been wanting to start a study, just Jason and I. Any suggestions??

Happy birthday Cooper!

Trey: Do accountability groups work? If I'm not able to be accountable to God, why would I be accountable to another person?

That is my question.

1. I have one here at my computer that says,"Your graceful qualities make difficult things seem easy." That is something that I actually get complimented on quite a bit so it was neat to get it in a cookie. It also reminds me to continue to be graceful. (Don, no comments please.)

2. yes

3. no, but I may need to get one...

Happy Big day Coop!

Kathy

At our local YMCA, there is a scripture bowl that contains folded slips of paper. On each slip, there is a bible verse. My son and I always choose a slip from the bowl before we leave the Y. He calls them "fortune cookies from God".
Anyway, once, the one I drew was also the verse that was the focus of the Sunday School class that week. It concerned an issue that I was really struggling with, so I knew it was my wake up call to pay closer attention this time around.

Aw, I liked your comments on 18:22.

1. 3 days after our last son was born, my husband got us Chinese take-out. My fortune was "Change is happening in your life, so go with the flow!" I still have it. :)

2. Right after we were first married, my husband & I read the Bible together every day. I would love for us to get back to that.

3. A group of young women from my church regularly get together for Bible study & discuss things to keep each other accountable. I also have a couple email friends that I consider accountability partners. Nothing real official, though.
