Amazing Landing in Honduras

I told those going to Honduras with me, that I’d post this video today. I’m not trying to scare them, I just don’t want them to miss part of the excitement of the trip.

The runway our plane lands on in Tegucigalpa is the second shortest major airport runway in the world. Because the runway is surrounded by mountains and because it’s so short, the pilots have to have special training to land there.

Now, before you watch the video, let me say this to make you feel better … if landing a big jet airliner on this runway was risky or extremely dangerous, all the major airlines that fly into Honduras wouldn’t. And, even more importantly, you’ve got an amazing God that takes care of you … so trust Him.

Take :52 seconds and watch this.

“Don’t be afraid!” I heard someone say that in the background. I was holding my breath for 52 seconds! I know God will take care of you and all of my dear friends who are going with you!

  2. It reminds me of landing in Hot Springs, Arkansas … except with much taller mountains and a much bigger plane ….

  3. Ricco Suave' says:

You don’t spend much time having to taxi to & from your gate! That’s nice for us impatient in a hurry types :)

    • Trey Morgan says:

You’re right. I know this one impatient person who would already have his seatbelt off and standing at the front of the plane before the plane would come to a complete stop. Although he’s impatient … he’s a great guy.

  4. Tim Archer says:

That was before the crash in 2008, I think. When I landed in February, it was a boring, straight shot. Kind of disappointing.

    Grace and peace,
    Tim Archer

  5. Glenna Garcia says:

Well thank you Trey I feel so much better! lol. The take off from there will be the toughy. I know that is one place my sister will not fly to. She won’t even fly into Angel Fire. (that is one of the most dangerous airports in the US). So I will take some Xanex with me. No I won’t.

  6. Maggie Beth says:

Doesn’t that look like a blast?!?! (I mean, a ball!!!)

I bet the flight attendants’ only have to say, “Put your seat belts on.” ONCE!

And just think adventure-seekers! The landing is only the beginning!

Have fun! Send a post card — or a blog post!

*** Most Sincerely, Trei, I pray God will do a mighty work, in all who travel with you; and in those, whose lives’ you all will touch.

((I am also going to throw in safe travels ~ and maybe an angel’s back ~ just for a smooth landing…..(SMILE)!!)))

  7. Cheryl Ryan says:

That video is amazing! I can see why pilots have to have special training to land there. Not a lot of room for error. But, like you said jets take off and land there all the time and God will be with you all. All of you going to Honduras are and will continue to be in our prayers.

  8. Theophilus says:

So you’re saying pilots have to take a crash course before landing there?

I get whiplash just looking at that video!

  9. You might want to warn those of us who don’t fly often to “resume breathing” after watching the video. :)

  10. Joe says:

Not watching, not watching, not watching!!!

I’ve heard about this – from my oldest daughter who just got back from Honduras. And my two younger daughters may still go later. AFTER they get back I might watch this!

  11. vanilla says:

Can imagine no better reason on earth NOT to go to Honduras.

  12. Sherry Hubright says:

Now you know why everyone on the flight claps loudly after the plane lands safely! AND why everyone tells the first officer “well done, SIR” as they exit the plane! :-)

  13. Allix says:

Trey! I’m watching “Most Extreme Airports” on the History Channel, & right after I read your blog it named the Honduras airport second most extreme airport runway! Best wishes this up coming week, God will be working wonders with y’all there!!

  14. […] Trey Morgan has an incredible post about the airport with a video – Go check it out!  The video is great! […]
