A "GOD CAN SAVE" ATTITUDE

One of my most favorite stories in the Bible is the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from Daniel 3. You remember the story … the three boys refused to give in to the King and worship the idol he made. So the King got mad and heated up the fiery furnace to kill them.

Just before he threw them in, he gave them one last chance to bow down to the idol and save themselves. It’s their response that has always amazed me. They tell the old King, “God can save us, but even if He doesn’t, we’re still going to follow him!” The key word in that thought is “can.” God CAN save us!

Wouldn’t it be great, that no matter how bleak things look in your life, if you could still have a “God Can Save” attitude like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego’s.

  • When your marriage crumbles, you say, “God can save my marriage!”
  • When the doctor says it’s cancer, you boldly proclaim, “God can heal my body!”
  • When temptations comes your way, you exclaim, “God can help me overcome!”
  • When the child you’ve raised in the Lord walks away, you know, “God can lead them back!”
  • When a trial that you’re going through rocks your faith, you shout, “God can save me from this!”

Wouldn’t it be great to believe with all your heart that no matter how bad things look, God can save you?

BUT DON’T miss the last part of that though … “I believe God can save … BUT even if He doesn’t … I will still serve him!” Even if He chooses not too save me … I WILL STILL SERVE HIM! That kind of faith ROCKS! That IS a “God Can Save” attitude and I want one of those!

How about you?

I totally agree! I love Daniel! I did an indepth study of the book of Daniel and it changed my thinking in many ways. We must understand God’s sovereignty. Daniel is a great book to help us understand that.

I was listening to Chuck Swindoll on the way to work this morning and he stated that everyone should memorize Daniel 4:35 “All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to Him: “What have you done?”

While this is a very direct scripture about God’s sovereignty and by itself may seem harsh, I find it so comforting to know that there is not a single thing that happens that surprises God. I may not understand why some things happen but I trust in the one who has complete power over every situation.

    Great as always Trey.

Having lost my Dad to cancer when I was 22, it is very hard for me to get my head around the idea that God CAN heal but sometimes DOESN’T. The human part of me wished that he just WOULD.

Although I will say that after Dad came out of the cave as he called it, he went on teaching and reading and singing for as long as he could. Oh, for a faith like that!
