A FAVORITE MINISTRY

Let me share with you one of my best ministries. It takes place every Wednesday morning in the elementary school library. Before school starts I have about 30-40 children who show up for a devotional. We sing songs about God and then have a Bible story. Each week I bring an object in my “red bag” and then tie that in to a Bible story. It’s one of the highlights of my week.

I’m always amazed at the kids who love to sing and learn new songs. I’m even more amazed that there are kids who have never heard Bible stories that I’ve heard all my life. Many times I get questions like, “Is that a real story about Jonah and the fish or did you make that up?” More than once I was asked, “I liked that story about David and Goliath. I’ve never heard that before.”

One of my favorite things about devotional at the elementary school is when I have kids come up to me at other places like the store, ballgames or the park and say, “Hey you’re the bible story guy.” That one makes me smile every time.

Not long ago there was a little girl who kept inviting me to come over to her house. After about the fourth week of an invitation to come over I asked her, “Are you wanting me to come play?” To which she quickly responded, “Oh no, I want you to come tell me some more Bible stories.”

I must say, my elementary school ministry is one of my favorites!

  5. Alan Gable says:

Talking about the one true God in an American public school? That’s what I call “proclaiming the gospel boldly”. Watch your back, bro.

    Seriously, good stuff.

Your favorite ministry…and no doubt one of your most important as well. Great work, Trey!

We have a partnership with an elementary school down the street as well. It provides amazing opportunities for us to minister to the children, their parents, the teachers, and the staff. They love us so much they’ve invited Terry to be “Prinicpal for a Day” next week!

I love to hear about such ministries. Teaching the Bible to those who have never heard it is an exciting experience.

How in this world did this happen in “modern” America? What a great opportunity, and I am sure the kids are getting as much, if not more, out of what you are teaching. Keep up the great work in Childress.

How on earth does that happen in a public school? I live in a Northern State and I can’t see that ever being allowed. How did you get that approved?

P.S. Can you guess my state? We are all in mouring over Number 4 and claim the homestate of Tony Romo.

  13. TREY MORGAN says:

Of course living in a small Christian community and in the Bible belt doesn’t hurt. I’m officially invited by my son who is a student and it takes place before school begins. Those who come do so by their own choice.

We also have a wonderful principal.

Anonymous – I’m guessing your state is a state full of cheese lovers. I even hate to see old number 4 go. I’m a big Cowboy fan, but #4 was sure fun to watch!
