A Father’s Love – PART 1

If you’ve never heard of Dick Hoyt and his son Rick, you’ll be absolutely amazed at this father’s love. I was moved to tears the first time I saw it, and again last night getting this ready. It’s too good not to share with you.

Together, Dick and Rick Hoyt (Team Hoyt) have run in marathons, competed in triathlons, and once even trekked 3,700 miles across America. It’s truly astounding when you consider that Rick Hoyt is unable to walk or talk. But with Dick supplying the ability and dedication and Rick the inspiration and motivation, Team Hoyt exemplifies the power that is in “Together.”

The Scriptures tell us “two are better than one” for God designed us to live in community and accountability with one another. Other Christians help reprove, refine, and ultimately reinforce our walk with Christ. Separated, we are weak. Together, we are strong.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

What do you think of love like this? Does it in any way remind you of our Father in heaven? More tomorrow on Team Hoyt and “A Father’s Love…”

    Great post.
I am so thankful that I have a God that I can call father. How wonderful it is he allows us to have a son/daughter relationship with him.
    Keep up the great blogging.
I praise be to “Abba Father” who loves us more than we can began to comprhend or imagine.

The first time I saw this video I cried and cried. What a wonderful story of love and dedication. In our Wednesday night study of the Chip Ingram book God As He Longs For You To See Him we studied God’s Love and it blows my mind how much loves us and is willing to go the distance with us. Thanks for sharing this story.

Preacherman… you’re right about the relationship thing. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t truly understand my relationship with God till I had children of my own.

Stachia … I’ve heard nothing but praise for Ingram’s book. We can’t ever go wrong studying about God’s love.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This is probably the best you tube ever! Thanks for putting it on your blog where we can easily find it. Reminds me of the poem footprints in the sand.

“My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

It is good to be reminded that we all have someone to “carry us.”

Keith actually got to see these guys when he ran Boston.

    Monica,

Keith saw them? That’s too cool. They are pretty inspirational to me. Maybe it’s because I’m a dad or maybe because I’m a runner.

I guess the videos have been around a while, because some of you guys have seen them. I didn’t run across them till this week. But, I’ve always been a little slow.

I think I saw Team Hoyt once doing an ironman triatholon. Could be mistaken though.

    Great story though.

Came over to thank you for leaving a comment on my blog and spent quite awhile catching up on your recent posts. Good stuff. (Loved the “last letter” especially.)

Happy late birthday by the way.

  • it's still early. :)
  • no worries. Luke is a very popular gospel during the Christmas season. 😜 #BabyJesusStory
  • Mitch Moreland has a combined 1.6 WAR since the start of 2011 at a premium position (DH/1B). That position needs to produce.
  • definitely don't disagree with that. We will miss his glove. But he had such a quiet bat for someone at first base.
  • I only disliked him when he was at the plate.
